The Little Sisters of the Apocalypse took the Triple-Ex, Triple-D Road Show to
Legends Games in Vincennes, IN for a two-day tournament.

Here's the current casting:

Saint Celestine
Uriah Jacobus
Battle Conclave: five Death-Cult Assassins, three Crusaders, Rhino
Five Celestians: two melta guns, Immolator with twin-linked multi-melta.
Ten Battle Sisters: heavy flamer, melta gun, Rhino

Game one was version Tau. The mission was Capture and Control with Spearhead
deployment.

These guys didn't have extra lists, so I'm not going to try to regurgitate
details. He had two Hammerheads, three Devil Fish with Fire Warrior squads, two
units of Crisis Suits, a unit of Battle Suits and an HQ suit.

The Tau went first, which made things a little more difficult than they needed
to be, but he wasn't able to do much permanent damage. I set out to kill the
Fire Warriors and so disembarked Dominions to flame them after I cracked the
transports.

After the transport cracking didn't immediately happen, he unloaded his Fire
Warriors to shoot at the Dominions. This allowed Celestine to gak one squad and
Battle Sisters to all but eliminate another on the next turn. I eventually got
the other after destroying their 'Fish and sending the Conclave to have a little
chat with them.

After the troops were gone, it was just a matter of making sure his Suits didn't
contest my objective. One unit was exorcised and the other mishaped into my
clutches, putting them well out of the way.

Easy win, one objective to none.

Game two was against Necrons and was Annihilation with Dawn of War deployment.

The Necrons had an Overlord with a Court, a Destroyer Lord, a C'tan shard, a
unit of Immortals, two big units of Warriors, a Wraith, five Destoyers, a
Monolith, a Spider and a big bunch of Scarabs.

Deployment problems keep some of his stuff out of the game until near the end so
I concentrated on one side of the board, shooting the Destroyers, the Shard, and
the Wraith off. He eventually brought one unit of Warriors through the Monolith
which left them nicely bunched for flaming.

Suffice it to say that killing 19 out of 20 Necrons is an unfullfilling thing.
Put it down to one of many, many failed AoF tests.

That squad of 'Crons was eventually finished off, the Exorcist eventually got
the 'Lith and the Conclave came in contact with the Scarabs on the last turn
along with Celestine and a few squads of girls.

While the rest mostly watched, the Conclave ripped the little buggers to shreds;
10 bases went bye-bye in combat and the last four died from fearless wounds.
Losing 30 - 0 will do that to you.

So despite a big disadvantage in the number of kill Points available, the
Sisters pulled it out 8 to 6.

Game three was against IG and was Seize Ground with Pitched Battle Deployment.
The Sisters thought they were going first but it didn't happen (would any one
actually enjoy hearing a stream of profanity-laced invective about Seize the
Initiative at this point?).

The Guard brought two Company Command squads with plasma, five melta Vet squads
in Chimeras, three Vendettas, two Demolishers and a Leman Russ.

Oddly, losing first turn didn't really didn't hurt that much, I latter found out
that he just forgot to move and started shooting. The Sisters were better
deployed and were able to get on three objectives and contest the other so the
IG guy called it a day after five turns.

The last game was against Chaos and was Victory Points with Pitched Battle
deployment. Chaos came with two Nurgle Princes with Warptime, two squads of
Chosen in Rhinos, two squads of Beserkers in Rhinos, two squads of Plague
Marines in Rhinos, and three squads of two Obliterators.

The Sisters actually got to go first and came out firing; one Rhino was
destroyed, two were wrecked, and two were immobilized on turn one.

Sadly, after that, the shooting turned cold, especially since his Obliterators
couldn't seem to fail to penetrate my Exorcists every time they shot at them.

So the Exorcist didn't contribute much more and shooting at Plague Marines is
pretty much a waste of time, so things weren't looking all that hot for a while.
. . until the Conclave got rolling.

The first victim was a Chosen squad. They did manage to get one Assassin on the
way in as the Ecclesiarchy can't seem to find funding for frag Grenades.

Next up were Plague Marines; T5 can sometimes be a bit of a bother, but not
really with a big Conclave. The Plagues didn't have a chance to scratch before
being chopped to pieces.

Next, a unit of Beserkers charged the Conlave. Four Besrkers bit it on the way
in as the Assassins greeted them. The Beserkers failed to inflict any casualties
and the Crusaders took out two more Beserkers. The Beserker Champ was unable to
fist anyone - people have got to hate Crusaders by now - and the last two
members of the Beserker squad died to fearless wounds.

This allowed the Conclave to mosey over and chop up a unit of Obliterators to
cap off the afternoon.

The Sisters finished with a comfortable margin of victory.

I have to say this experience has got me thinking even more about a second
Conclave.

Celestine didn't actually do badly at all, she failed most of her invulnerable
saves and died frequently, but managed to make it to the end of every game
except the first alive. She also took out the occasional unit even accounting
for two units in the Chaos game.

Nonetheless, the Conclave just rips units to shreds. I'll have to give up
Celestine and another squad, which would hurt against mech armies, but I'm still
thinking another Conclave is worth a try.

Congrats on some solid wins with your SoB's.

The battle conclave is starting to look like a winner. I may have to re-evaluate them. So far I've faced them 5 times. 1) They ate up 2 of my IG veteran squads. 2) Tied them up the entire game with a walker. 3) My purifiers shot them up and then finished them off in assault (at Ard Boyz Semi's). 4&5) Wiped them out (and Jacobus) in 2 separate games with my wraiths. Maybe I'm just getting lucky against them.

The main prob I see with the conclave is they have an unreliable delivery. I mean once theyre in cc they can shread things but kinda tricky sometimes at competitve levels to get into cc. Oh I also forgot to mention I have seen them kill things too well and then die is next rounds shooting phase.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.

Really? Because my experience so far is that they rarely get shot to death, especially now that I have a dozer blade.

@pzbw7z: Thanks for the recap, man. Great to hear more SoB love. What made the tournament a 'sorry excuse'?

Except for necrons you didn't face any of the more top tier lists. I've found that sisters can really struggle against guard, wolves and most of all, grey knights. Its entirely possible to get upwards of 6 vehicles ripped open on turn 1 if the rolling is half way decent. 16X4 strenth 7 shots followed up by 3 S8 AP 2 shots. Not including dreadnoughts. Does great work on rhinos.

Grey knights are beasts.

Yea, the guy who forgot to move turn 1 you mean?..... I think that says it all...

I can pound GK with Tyranid MC's if they forget to activate their force weapons....

Some is luck maybe but it's really how you choose to handle them. Many people underestimate them currently thats why they seem so good. They are good but focus fire on them before they assault you and they die pretty easy.

The biggest asset sisters have is surprise. No expects the (former) inquisition.

And yeah, I'm not counting a guy who forgot to move as a top tiered army. Haha

I think this is a bit of an over-simplification.

You can't just 'focus fire' something and hope for the best. For example, I 'focus fired' on Meph/Dread Storm Raven for 3 turns and it didn't work out for me. That let the rest of his army get a lot closer to me than I wanted to. Multiple opponents 'focus fired' on my DCA and didn't pop their rhino due to overlapping cover, smoke, etc and I still got charges off when I want them. Not to mention, their focus on my DCA rhino meant that other things got to move forward and own the center of the board.

In fact, I would say that some folks overestimated them and some underestimated them. Both paid for that estimation, either by allowing me to own the board or for the unit to eat 3 or 4 units.

TLDR: You can always say 'just shoot them first', but in reality it is a lot easier said than done.

How did you finish? Just curious since this is the third "good" report of SoB finishing high.

I love the second conclave. Kyrinov is really underrated by the community. IMO

Rhinos are not a bad delivery system for counter-attack units. They are bad if you want to initiate the attack. They just take practice in placement and use.

There were three objectives on my left side of the board and only one on the right. I deployed heavily on that side and he deployed heavily on the other side. What stuff he had on the left died, so my girls took the objectives.

One squad strung out to take two and they were shielded from IG fire. I had a Superior make a Shield of Faith roll and get back into her Rhino which parked over another objective. A squad of lonely Battle Sisters contested the far right objective.

He may have been able to take the far right objective and maybe contested the middle objective, but he evidently didn't fancy his chances.

After the game, I told him he needed to move earlier, he then told me he had just forgotten to before he started shooting. It would certainly have been a rougher game if he had gotten some veterans into range on the first turn.

I won clear first.

The second Conclave appeals, but I'm still uncertain if that's the way to go at 2,000. At 2,5000, sure, but at 2,000? Dunno. I would lose a shooty unit and an melta-lator as well as Celestine.

I suppose it really comes down to play style. The difference between Celestine and Kyrinov is playstyle maybe? They are both good, and I think you can not go wrong with either.

Grats on the win. It's good to see them wining!
