I want to know the chaos timeline, starting with the creation of the first demon, which was Nurgle, I believe, to the creation of Slannesh by the Eldar. Also include the background for why/how each god was created, and any interesting factoids you've gathered about them (mainly personality traits, but also any crazy actions they've taken against each other, on mankind,, etc. etc.). Greatly appreciated!

Used to be, if you were fighting battles on DaemonWorlds, each side could declare certain Rules of Engagement that restricted the actions of both sides.
Rules such as "The color red shall not be worn upon this field, nor may crimson be displayed in uniform, armor or banner." Or "No blood may be spilled in this battle, all attacks must be non-lethal". Once each side had agreed to the number of rules, they declared them (each side getting an equal number of declared rules) and then adjusted the deployed units accordingly. Sucks to get the "red rule" if you were a Khornate player.
The old Realms of Chaos books provided all sorts of wacky things for Chaos players to do.

Khorne is the oldest god I believe, followed by Nurgle, then Tzeentch.
Used to be that you could make Khorne-dedicated units immune to psychic powers. 'Course, that'd mean they couldn't be JOTWW...
Slaanesh was made by the debauchery of the Eldar, the only god created by a single race. It likes to eat things' souls.
Tzeentch usually has a dozen plans on the go at once, almost all of them directly or indirectly counteracting each other.
Nurgle used to be sadistic, making all his followers feel the effects of his 'gifts' on them while also making them immune to the result. Eternal pain. Now he makes them immune to that as well. I guess he got a good therapist.

There are lesser Chaos Gods other than the big four. There's an interesting bit of trivia for you. (The Chaos god of Apathy tends to not be as powerful as the others, since he doesn't have enough initiative to imbue followers, launch attacks, or take any kind of action.)

This would be as soon as there was intelligent life. And at that point, all chaos gods and zillions of daemons came into being. However, those chaos gods were then created later too. The warp doesn't follow our system of time.

Following a plausible timeline the warp, as is currently known, didn't really begin 'til after the War in Heaven, where the erratic use of psychic powers and general torment throughout the galaxy started to stir it up. Before then it was supposed to be a pretty calm and not to deadly. After all that though is became chaotic and then we can assume that the chaos gods began to coalesce and form over the eons to become what we know them as today. True dates are never really stated as for when each god formed (except slaanesh) but we assume it was Khorne, Nurgle, then Tzeentch. But since time doesn't really exist in the warp, they've always been and at the same time have yet to exist. Wheee!
As for background on them:
Nurgle is often seen as a Santa of plagues, spreading disease and contagion as gifts that his incredibly happy followers as just pleased as punch to give to everyone. He creates daemons differently from everyone else, through the use of Nurgle's Rot, and is rumored to have the Eldar goddess Isha for a wife.
Tzeentch is a schemer who schemes for the sake of it. His plans are tumultuous to an extreme with no clear end in mind, or even in the realm of possibility. His followers have random bodies that constantly change and mutate with equally substantial abilities. Sometimes spitting mighty bolts of powerful magic, sometimes blasting confetti from their palms.
Khorne is the god of bloodshed and war. His daemons are all about carnage and the taking of skulls. Blood is a big theme in naming conventions and in every aspect relating to him. SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE and all.
Slaanesh is, counter to what everyone will say, more then just a god of sex and depravity. His/her followers are perfectionists in any form imaginable. Those who wish to experience physical input to the fullest imaginable, and generally those who wish to indulge in something to a hedonistic level.
These terribly short bits of information are something to be taken as barely a coin scratch on the lottery ticket of their true background, but something, I hope, that can be used as a jumping off point

I think it's very hard to put an exact date on something that's always been there. I think the real question is "When did they first manifest into their current state of being?". And there's no real answer, they've been around a long, long time in some form or another. They are the thoughts of all sentient beings manifest. There's no real answer to walk away with here.

Possibly, the war in heaven was what started the forming of the Chaos Gods and the actions of humanity that led to their actual being.
Nurgle I put down to this action in the War in Heaven, as before this the Eldar knew no death or sickness.
This is from THE BIRTH OF FEAR
But victory came at a price. Shards of the Yngir's flesh, driven deep into Khaine's body by the cataclysmic demise of his foe, melted in the fires of the War God's wrath. The silver poison flowed into his bloodstream, forever tainting his physical incarnation with the aspect of the Reaper.
Kaelis Ra cannot truly die, for it is death incarnate. Raging at its defeat, its quintessence howled throughout space, entering every one of the Eldar race and cursing them with the terror of the grave. Thus it was that the seed of the Eldar's downfall was sown, and ultimately, the way of reincarnation was closed to them forever.
Slaanesh is definitely more than the God of Sex. Slaanesh is perhaps the most evil of the Gods. He is the soul destroyer, he has a hunger for you that can never be sated. He is a God that will tolerate no other, he is a jealous and wrathful Master. He will grant you your boon, only for you to never experience the same pleasures again until you eventually consume yourself, leaving you a hollow and soulless husk. All joys can be known to you, but he will leave you empty and screaming to feel.

Daemonworld by Ben Counter gives a good account of what it is like to be a follower of Slaanesh.
It's like everything you do is never as good as it first was and you keep doing more and more things to recreate the original high in a way, but as soon as something works, the next time you try it, it leaves you wanting the original feeling, but you can never obtain it. I guess it's why the Emperors Children were a good candidate for Slaanesh, their constant struggle for perfection always dragged them on to experience new things. Now they still have the same drive, but it's for various levels of pleasure and reward now.

Yeah, Slaanesh came to being when the eldar realized they had mastered reality to the point where they no longer had to do any sort of work ever again. Then the majority of them gradually slipped into depravity of one form of another, NOT JUST SEX. Every kind of thrill-seeking, from orgies to newer and more dangerous drugs to blood-sport type games. When you are functionally immortal and you no longer have to struggle in any way to live, and you're as emotionally high-strung as the eldar, I guess you go kind of crazy. Spend ten thousand years gradually sliding into that and your ancient, perfect society falls apart completely. Automatically Appended Next Post: And to address the rest of the gods:
The gods didn't exist when the C'Tan and the Old Ones first started their war. The warp was calm and peaceful. It began to grow turbulent due to the War in Heaven. Eventually the Old Ones created the Eldar, whose sentience gradually created their own gods. For instance, Khaine existed, but Khorne didn't, so Khaine may have been the seed of Khorne. Similarly, when the C'Tan Kaelis Ra was killed by Khaine, it shattered and planted the seed of the Reaper in Khaine and in the warp (also how the Avatars gained their molten necrodermis). Because of this, the eldar no longer can reincarnate, and now fear death. This is the seed of Nurgle (I would think). Not sure where Tzeentch got his start, but any sentient race that lays plans would have helped build Tzeentch.
The passage of time and the reinforcement of these thoughts and feelings would cause the full gods to form. I would argue that while all the gods were started in early Eldar history, it took humanity to put the finishing touches on Khorne, Nurgle, and Tzeentch as we know them. Some of the Eldar gods were part of a larger god (Khaine and Khorne) so I'd say it took other races to complete the creation of 3 of the big 4.
I'm sure humans contributed a little to Slaanesh, but really, the Eldar own that puppy.

Nurgle is the oldest Chaos Gods Thats why he is called Father Nurge.
Tzeentch was always there is just he has got to power over a period of time since change was always there always...
Khorne I dont know much about he feeds the needs of who is full of rage thare would be no Khorne without Tzeentch.
Slannesh was born by the Eldar who ware having to much fun...BUT NOT ONLY SEX ALSO THE FACT THEY IGNORED EVERYTHING AND JUST WANTED FUN
1.Nurge is oldest
2.Tzeentch is not a lot older
3.Khorne took some time to make rage out of change so he is older the Tzeentch
4.Slannesh the young prince

Kaelis Ra, being the Night Bringer, and Khaine fought in the war in heaven according to the Birth of Fear, which is an old GW story. I guess it would still fit in with the newcrons as when Khaine beat him he split into many shards. Some of which pierced Khaines Flesh.

Actually maybe not re reading this part, the shards that were embedded in the Khaine were
driven deep into Khaine's body by the cataclysmic demise of his foe, melted in the fires of the War God's wrath. The silver poison flowed into his bloodstream, forever tainting his physical incarnation with the aspect of the Reaper.

Anyway, the one thing that you can be sure about regarding Tzeentch is that it does exist. Unless he's just the non-raging face of Khorne or something.
