I've been reading the Dark Elf lore and I've been interested in starting an army based heavily on the use of magic. One ting I've noticed is a lack of male casters, nothing against females I'd just like some variety. Is there something in their lore that explains why there is only female spell casters? I know that Malekith is a level 4 wizard, but that's the extent of their male casters it seems. Also, If I were to model a male caster would there be any tournament rules that would make the use of that model obsolete? Thanks Dakka.

"War is not violence and killing, pure and simple; war is controlled violence, for a purpose. The purpose of war is to support your government's decisions by force. The purpose is never to kill the enemy just to be killing him but to make him do what you want him to do. Not killing... but controlled and purposeful violence."

Dark Elf fluff is the main reason there are few DE Sorcerers.

Apparently there is a prophecy involving a male sorcerer and the doom of someone powerful. Malekith assumes he is the doomed persona, and sorcerers had best keep a very low profile lest they attract his invariably fatal attention. And given that Malekith's mother, the Hag Sorceress Morethai, runs the primary Coven of the Druchii, it should seem logical that sorcerers will be few and far between.

There are supposedly a few sorcerers, low and mercenary fellows even by DE standards, whose only redeeming feature is that they enable a minor lord to gain magical support without owing the Dark Coven of Ghrond a big favor.

QFT this pretty much says it all, although I think that its meant to be a dark elf sorceror otherwise teclis fits the bill a wee bit too nicely

The quote of the actual prophecy does not specify. In fact, one could read it to have already been fulfilled by Teclis, given the events at the climax of the last invasion.

But Malekith doesn't see it that way, and he's the one pushing the oppression of DE sorcerers.

Aye, I was a bit on that switch. I liked the old male Sorceror model. They move it from only he can have a Chariot, to he says there can be no male Sorcerors, seemed odd that they need to have a restriction, but I suppose it represents Malekith is a bit of a paranoid maniac, who's blind to the fact his mother will off him the first time he actually becomes a real problem to her.

As to using your own, nothing stopping you, just say he is a renegade male caster working for your general. At the end of the day, a Male could survive by keeping his head down, staying outside the Naggaroth domain, or having a powerful House deny his presence.

One of the better options would have an army themed around working from a Black Ark, as out there on the open seas, Malekith's wants and fears mean didddly squat to a ambitious Captain. If the male sorceror is doing a job of note, then who is he to judge.

If you have a female sorceror in there as well, and folks start bugging on about how there is no way she would work with him. Just break out the siblings excuse. Works everytime.
