So in one corner we've got me, Chaos space marine player, and in the other, a Tau player, 2500 points

My opponent's army appears to be a very stationary pow-pow railgun build, with 4 hammerheads (two with railguns) 3 broadsides, a what seemed like 2 squads of crisis suits with missile pods on some, along with two piranhas. Besides that, a few firewarrior squads and a generous amount of gun drone squads.

My plan going in is with a build centered on 3 squads of Khorne Berserkers at 8 per squad, with skull champions(power fists), led by Kharn, suited with 3 rhinos with havoc launchers ( and possibly extra armour or possesion ) Leading the spearhead infront of the rhinos will be some combo of vindicators with possesion, a landraider with a pintle-melta and a havoc launcher filled with termies with a mark of nurgle, and a predator fitted with las cannons. This armoured advance is what I'm hoping will be able to reach their front line, and thus deliver the payload of berserkers frothing at the mouth right infront of them.

For tank hunting are some of the termies equipped with a 1 lightning claws, a reaper autocannon,a chainfist, and of course their usual power weapons. Following the center advance is also a demon prince with wings, mark of nurgle, and warptime for elite and tank hunting purposes.
along with them will be 1 or 2 squads of Chaos marines, outfitted also for tank hunting with meltabombs and a meltagun.

Besides the center advance, I'm deep striking 2 or 3 obliterators to do whatever they are required of, be it tank hunting or cutting down the firewarriors or drones.

In an alternate route preferable far away from the center advance will be a chaos dred with two CCWs. Assuming I'm somewhat lucky hopefully whatever crazed rolls go bad will go bad in favor of killing Tau.

Besides all that, I'm toying around with the thought of including a Defiler in the center advance, or a squad of chosen to fill out the point limit geared either for tank hunting or anti-infantry incase my zerkers fail. Another idea is to deep strike the termies while keeping the land raider.

The build is still in it's betas stages and I would appreciate any advise or criticism.

Is this some sort of APOC game?

I have never read about it so I dont know,...

Otherwise his FoC is way off......

4 Hammerheads and 3 Broadsides = 5-7 Heavyslots taken up as opposed to the 3 the FoC allows.

I have played at 2500 pts before but we just used the normal FoC.

Your solution to facing tau is to bring a bunch of AV11 and AV12 vehicles? Hate to tell you, but that's not going to work.

Honestly, you're best off running a foot list in this scenario. No stunned or destroyed rhinos or defilers, and you really only need to get like a single model or two (especially if one is a champ with a fist) into close combat to shut down your average tau unit.

Well my thought was that if I can use cheap rhinos to get troops in faster why not? I planned on popping smoke launchers and using cover where I can, but do you think I should just mob him?

Also.I'll talk to him about the force organization, i agree his is a bit funky.

You are probably looking at 2 Devilfish, 2 hammerheads, and then the broadside team with 3 members. The devilfish transport uses the same chassis as a hammerhead, but the armament is different (obviously). It's an easy misunderstanding to make, believe me.

As for tactics do what others have said - get into close combat as quickly as possible. Large foot squads will do you better than smaller squads in transports, because tau are very good at killing vehicles but have a touch more trouble with horde, especially when the foot models have 3+ armor saves and T4.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

I suppose that's true, so should I dispense with all the vehicles in that case or just focus on possessed devastators?

If no vehicles, would a comfortable mix of berserkers, chosen, and chaos space marines work? perhaps made meatier with marks of nurgle? Or should I just go with Death Guard for soaking?

I want to say thank you all who've spoken so far, I really appreciate the advice
