I'm in the beta. Not usuall a fan of RTS, but this one's not bad. There's no tutorial as of yet, so it takes a few games to get the hang of everything.
There are some annoying ways to win, like all helo rushes, or spamming rocket artillery, but its enjoyable so far.

I've seen some previews on this and it does look great, but I'd be interested in hearing what those in the beta have to say, if somebody wouldn't mind sticking up an account of their impressions?

Well, the graphics are certainly gorgeous, and the zoom scale is smooth and goes from a nice operational view to right down with the grunts. There are plenty of units to choose from, and you build a deck of units to pick from in battle. Your deck is divided into a number of categories where you can take up to five different options in each. This includes Logistics, Recon, Tanks, Infantry, Support, and Helo, which are pretty self explanatory.
There are two factions, NATO and Warsaw Pact, with four countries in each. Units go from post WWII technology (T-54s, Leopard 1, so on...) up to modern day tech (Leopard 2, M1 Abrams, T-80). There are various levels of cover and you can occupy forests, hedge lines, and buildings for added cover. Artillery and rockets provide long range shenanigans.
The field has various command zones that can be captured by an HQ command unit. Occupying these zones gives you a steady supply of command points that you use to summon reinforcements from certain points on the map. You start the match by deploying whatever units you want with the points you start with. Combat is smooth, though mounted infantry takes some getting used to if you use APCs vice IFVs due to the lack of external weapons on the APCs, forcing you to dismount to be effective. The rest is pretty standard RTS rock, paper, scissors with anti-air beating helo, helo beating armour, armour beating infantry, infantry being good at anything.
There are already some 'cheese' tactics used, like spamming helos and rushing the enemy base, or spamming rocket artillery and strong IFV units. Much of the match is determined in the initial contact with the enemy, as reinforcements and command points come in significantly slower than might be desired.
Maps are huge, and you can employ some solid flanking maneouvres and other genuine tactics you've dreamed about using in simpler RTS. Overall, solid game, could use some polishing and balancing, but its enjoyable if you like RTS games.

As long as it's nothing like World in Conflict. That game was rubbish.
M1 Abrams costs $500...infantry squad costs $400. Derp.
Derp derp. Tanks, derp, derp.
