Ever wonder what it would be like if you were actually first hand experiencing every smell, sound and touch the character on your screen is experiencing? Well considering the rapid advancements in technology, the internet and gaming it will not be too far away.

Recently I watched a demonstration of Battlefield 3 using the player as the controller, with an actual weapon in his hand, a treadmill system that let him walk any direction and the enemy AI fire in-game being shot at him by paintballs in the studio. Now there were a few bugs and glitches but its still impressive. So my question to Dakka is what would be your ultimate simulator?

I think we can all agree that once this technology becomes perfected, the first thing we'll make is... not safe for a family website.

There are benifits of being tired, at least it will give gamers some exercise however isn't ideal if you want a lazy afternoon vegetating on the couch. A way to combat this would be an exoskeletan brace that reduces the impact of your body weight.... but expensive.

As for being hit with paintballs its your own fault for stepping out of cover, so this teaches you to play more tactically rather than taking 3 shots to the body in Calll of Duty and still be able to knife the guy you were charging. With the smell I could see this as being a problem for people. If it could go even more hardcore as to change the temperature in the room to suit the enviroment you are playing in.

I guess the Battlefield 3 simulator is more suited to training the defence force. Btw the way has anyone seen the laser tag played in Starship Troopers... ouch.

Haha NSFW simulator.

I just meant that post as a joke, though you make several points Joker. Funny, Joker's the serious one.

That was a while ago...
At any rate i can see why some would like it.
Personally i wouldn't all that much...
I quite like some sense of detachment from the games i play.

So what happens when you get blasted out of the sky when in a helicopter of plane?
If a simulator was perfect, then I think only people thinking of actually going into the army would really want to keep going after dying a couple times.

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.
