Hello DakkaDakka Im tired of people not wanting to play my Grey Knights because Draigo is broken,Crowe is broken,Coteaz is broken...
I have 6000 points of Grey Knights painted up to a nice standard and I want a new army now something different.
I like the look of Eldar and their story is interesting I have bought the Codex today and I like what I see.
I would like an army all on jet bikes and grav tanks something fast hitting a high risk high reward type of army.
I also like the Biel-Tan scheme a white and silent wave of death.
My questions are how does an Eldar army feel building/painting and playing and general things I should know before I start buying

If you want a very fast, hard hitting/High Risk V High Reward army, that sounds a lot more slanted toward Dark Eldar, than Craftworld Eldar.

Overall though, perhaps you should find a new gaming group, if they are whining about you playing GK.

Well, I'm just saying that Dark Eldar matches that description a lot more than Eldar.

Eldar are a good army, but are pretty old, and it shows in some areas. There are a lot of units, that are just outright useless, and you only really see a few types of Eldar army lists. There really arn't a lot of viable builds, like there are with the new dexes. Eldar have pretty tough Transports, as they are front and Sides 12, and have the Energy shield. The playstyle is generally using your high speed, durability, and maneuverability to win games.

I play DE and they are fast and mean and a joy to paint too!

I have always wanted to do a regular eldar army though.... Perhaps when they get a new codex ill try it out.....

Either way adding a Xenos army is a benefit to everyone.

I absolutely love Eldar. They are an old book and they rely on careful planning and thinking ahead to win games. The jetbike army is a good idea, but it is also extremely expensive to build. If money isn't an object than by all means go for it. The farseer jetbike squad is still one of the most lethal units in the game.

Fire Prisms, Eldrad, and Jetseers/Jetlocks are IMO the most fun and cool units. In closing they require tactics but are fun and rewarding. Not to mention the added challenge after using the new GK will be refreshing.

I'm both instinctive and emotional. I value my own instincts and desires, and either ignore or crush anything that stands in my way; planning and foresight are unnecessary. At best, I'm determined and fierce; at worst, I'm headstrong and infantile.

Eldar are certainly different to GK - I have both and I use them about equally.

What I love about Eldar is that you have to carefully construct your army to tackle your opponent. There is no point in simply fielding the same stuff as it is not always effective. I guess if you want to win tournaments then this only one effective build, to play your mates there are loads.

I, for example, put out a different army v IG than I do v CSM.

Eldar have lots of different units, all are different and offer something interesting.

My overall observations are that Eldar can lack decent heavy weaponry, ok v troops but not v vehicles, so watch that by including fire dragons and fire prisms. Also Eldar are glass hammers, quick and dangerous but very easy to kill.

I like them as a counterpoint to GK, they operate totally differently and are a good army to use as a second option, flex the old strategic muscles!
