So I was reading some random article about the fake leaked 6th edition codex and it got me thinking. In 5th edition, melee is king... There are countless jokes about our super soldier space marines not being able to hit the broad side of a barn and there has to be some easy mechanic to alleviate this issue. Adding in a new to hit chart based on target unit type seems overly burdensome.
What if we made all infantry toted Heavy Weapons +1 BS.
Likewise maybe make all infantry toted rapid fire weapons +1 BS if the model didn't move.
How much do you think this would affect the game? It would effectively give the best weapons +16% more damage in most cases. Is that enough? Too much?

Love the idea, might give some ranged fighters a decent chance !
But lets face it, this would be kind of OP on some armies...
But I agree about the barn part.... SOmething needs to be done !

I like it too, but agree about the OP.
What if for rapid fire weapons it drops the 2nd shot if within 12". This would simulate a soldier taking his/her time to aim before firing their rifle.

I'm not overly convinced that this proposed change wouldn't be a shift in the right direction. I think the rapid fire mechanic would need some tweaking but I honestly think that this has merits.
Units like longfangs and IG heavy weapon squads would get a nice boost, but in effect that just reduces the effectiveness of vehicles in most cases... Something that needed to be done anyway.
As an alternative, what if we just gave all infantry +1 to their BS when shooting against vehicles?

Now that I agree with.

As long as an enemy will let you slaughter him in fire phase but have things go a little wrong in the CC phase and die, it will not be corrected.
Example: A wraithlord with an EML and a scatterlaser shoot and kill 8 DE kalabite warriors in the fire phase and they need to make a morale test at Ld 9.
The same wraithlord charges and kills 3 De warriors and takes no wounds - the DE morale test is at Ld 6.

As far as rapid-fire weapons go, I like to play where if a model moves they may still fire the rapid-fire weapon up to its full range but at -1 BS. If they stand still and the enemy they're shooting at is within 12", they gain +1 BS from a rapid-fire weapon. Just my 2 cents

I actually like Sock's idea, gives you a little more flexibility for shooty-ness.
-1BS when moving, but it probably shouldn't affect range, just skill at range.
+1 holding still, makes sense...maybe even a cover save of some sort if they don't move...i mean, nobody would stand like a robot, even in the robot if they are shooting, and being shot at...
