Karon wrote:DLC is fine, especially when its for a game like ME2 or ME3 where the DLC was excellent.
DLC only gets out of hand when they offer something like Horse Armor, and even then you aren't forced to buy it.
People who cry about DLC are the same people who cry about getting too much candy on Halloween when they were a kid.
I guess thats the debate isnt it? Is DLC good in that it adds new content and thus prolong a game, or is it bad by showing content that should have been in from the get go but is now being charged for?

Its not DLC people rage against. It's launch DLC, which is a legitimate complaint to an extent (though you often get it free with a new copy of the game).
There is validity in the complaint "if you have it ready at launch shouldn't it just be in the game?" I think it's mostly a marketing issue. The publisher wants to sweeten pre-orders and new copies with extra stuff. So they make DLC, but then people get it in their head that it's costing them more even if it itsn't.

I can see the legitimacy of that complaint for certain situations, but not for ME2.
The three content DLC's were all pretty big and actually good, and I don't see how they could have put them in the game when they were all decently sized.
Bioware isn't Bethesda when it comes to DLC, I don't think anybody has to worry about the "Horse Armor" issue.
I agree launch DLC is the main problem it does annoy me but generally it cost what £5 extra for the "limited" edition that includes said DLC a little cash grab but hey we are in a recession that or I just don't bother as most launch DLC is crap Dead Islands "The Ripper" DLC I'm looking at you.
I love DLC like the aforementioned ME2 DLC and the Dragon Age Origins DLC that prolong the game and add extra depth to the story.
I remember when I was a kid going and buying expansion packs for PC games (Tales of the Sword Coast/Thorne of Bhaal as an example) and no one had an issue with those. DLC is just the same as an expansion pack however it is done in cheaper smaller chunks. Best DLC I played in a good while was the Deus Ex Human Revolution one, added an extra 3 - 4 hours onto the game for 1200 MS points can't really argue,
People will complain about DLC, but like it or love it its here to stay. Its just nice to see some companies like Bioware for example embracing it for what it is and not some the petty cash grabs that other games/publishers use it as.
When you give total control to a computer, it’s only a matter of time before it pulls a Skynet on you and you’re running for your life.
I actually don't mind DLC if it is in the form of an expansion released later as build up on the game. The aesthetic change one I don't really care at all about, they're entirely optional. It's when things are left out as DLC that it becomes annoying.
yes the halo maps were aparently good (I don't own them so can't comment first-hand) but without them you almost can't play the game online for more than a few matches without being kicked/sent to the store unless you play the less popular playlists.

Both came out with DLC that added new maps.

Well, see, the developers that know that all the 12 year olds that play Call of Duty will buy them regardless. Its not a problem with DLC, its a problem with the people.

I remember the day when dlc were just called content patches.
Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Times have changed, haven't they? Once the developers found out they could charge for content patches and people would actually buy it, they were all over it.
Don't blame them considering I would do the same.

Subject: Re:DLC: The Video Game. A spoof from Mega64
I don't mind Day 1 DLC, as long as it's stuff like what DS2 did; extra costumes and upgraded guns that are just little boosts that not every player wants. Splatterhouse had the same thing; plenty of DLC that didn't do anything other than change your mask.
Day 1 DLC like Shale, a whole new character would have been over the "line" if it hadn't been included in every new copy.
I like DLC, and I like how it brings options/extra content, but I hate the obvious cash grabs.
I would much rather have DLC a la Mortal Kombat over twenty of the same game per year a la any capcom fighting game.
