Hi, I am making my very first warhammer army and I would like to see your opinions before I start buying the models. I would like to start with 1500, and here we go:

Thane (119 pts)
-Great Weapon
-Master Rune of Gromril (1+ armor save that cannot be improved)
-Rune of Resistance (Reroll failed armor saves)

Runesmith (122 pts)
-Shield
-Rune of Spellbreaking (x2)

10 Quarellers (125 pts)
-Light armor
-Shield
-Crossbow
-Musician

10 Quarellers (125 pts)
-Light armor
-Shield
-Crossbow
-Musician

20 Warriors (215 pts)
-Heavy armor
-Great Weapon
-Standard
-Musician

20 Warriors (215 pts)
-Heavy armor
-Great Weapon
-Standard
-Musician

24 Longbeards (303 pts)
-Heavy armor
-Shield
-Standard
-Musician

Cannon (125 pts)
-Rune of Forging (Reroll Missfires)

Bolt Thrower (90 pts)
-Engineer (+1BS and extra crewman)
-Rune of Penetrating (+1 Strength)
-Rune of Burning (Fire attacks)

Bolt Thrower (60 pts)
-Engineer (+1BS and extra crewman)

Pretty good! You may find the warrior blocks to be a tad small for your tastes, but its worth trying out. If you don't like it, you can always combine them- or make a unit of 30, and a "chaff" unit of 10 (or 10 with shields).

The only change I'd really recommend is dropping that thane's great weapon and making him a BSB, perhaps dropping the rune of penetrating (cool as it is) for the points.

You can get away without just a little courtesy of your longbeards, but you'll find that the re-rolls on swift reforms, combat reforms, break tests, fear, etc, etc, really favor a BSB.

Also, you may want to consider hammerers at some point- though that will bring your list closer to a "netlist" which I'm all for discouraging. They really are great value.

In short, get yourself a BSB and the rest will work itself out provided you're not playing in the most cutthroat of environments.

And welcome to Dwarves!

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

Overall the list looks fine I'm just offering my advice on what I would change. I'm sure you'd do fairly well with this list.

I'd make the Thane a BSB. The leadership rerolls are incredibly useful.

Looks good, you might be able to save some points by dropping the shields but that is your call. I don't see these units standing up in H2H nor can I see them really getting shot at very much when there are so many warmachines/GW dwarves nearby.

20 Warriors (215 pts)
-Heavy armor

I'd combine these into one unit that you run either 6 wide or in a horde. It would save you points on buying a second set of command and would help you get steadfast/take it away from other units.

24 Longbeards (303 pts)
-Heavy armor
-Shield
-Standard
-Musician

I'd keep this unit in but drop the longbeards upgrade. Use them as a support unit for your big warrior block. Alternatively just throw them into the warrior block to give yourself a huge horde unit of GW dwarves.

Cannon (125 pts)
-Rune of Forging (Reroll Missfires)

Looks good. If you do some of the stuff above you might be able to save enough points to fit a flame cannon in.
