Subject: Doom Scythe Engines?

Um... yeah. Just a little confused as to why Doom Scythes don't have any kind of special rule with regards to the noise their engines make, seeing as the entry waxes lyrical for a large paragraph about how men gouge their eyes out from hearing it, become catatonic, see hallucinations of dead and accusing friends, flee battlefields etc. Just seems like an incredibly unneccessary piece of fluff if it's not going to be represented in the rules, I just feel a bit cheated. Don't get me wrong, I like the Doom Scythe anyway, but I'm sure that with a small points increase and a special rule they would have become a lot more awesome, something that Matt Ward generally wants. Anyone have an explanation?

Anyone have an explanation? Yeah, I feel cheated as well. I guess it was fluff only as a balance thing. Having a Supersonic skimmer with a S10 AP1 weapon, 2 s7 tesla weapons that it can always fire AND having that ability would be a bit OTT. And its not unnecessary. Its GW's way of asking for the old school necron player's forgiveness by showing them that necrons still use psychological terror weapons, like in the last codex.

Yeah, I was sad as well that there was no upgrade as well! Such a cool piece of fluff.
Maybe they'll get something special in apocalypse for groups of them.

I guess, but if say it was 20, 30 points more and it had a rule along the lines of "On the first turn that a Doom Scythe enters the battlefield, all non-vehicle non-fearless enemy units must make a morale check. If they fail, those units now suffer a -2 Leadership penalty for the rest of the game." That way fearless and stubborn units are uneffected, as it should be, but it's still doing something. I know that should be in the proposed rules section, really, but I'm a maverick.

And then you'll have a 200+pt AV11 fire magnet that no will buy because its too much of an investment. And that ability would cost 50+ points. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sasori wrote:Yeah, I was sad as well that there was no upgrade as well! Such a cool piece of fluff.

Yeah, that would be awesome actually.
Say, a formation of 3 of them, and any enemy they pass over in the movement phase must take a morale check at -1.

Well, I'm not so good at designing and balancing rules, I try and stay away from it and stick to my beloved fluff, but I think there should have been SOMETHING to reflect that fluff. Or even just... remove that fluff I heard from someone that Ward didn't write any of the fluff and just made the rules, so perhaps there was just a lack of communication for that bit, I don't know.
