What are gonna be some good reads firstly from the Orks' perspective?
Secondly that are pretty much just about the orks?

Thank You

Think it was called "Da Deff Squadron", more a comic book but still pretty epic yet halarious story.

Stories from an Ork perspective are extremely limited. Fear the Alien is a a short story collection that has a story from the Ork point of view. It's an interesting read, but a bit short. Imperial Glory has a chapter from an Ork's perspective describing his rise from emerging from his cocoon to becoming a Warboss. Personally I wasn't so keen on the book (though I did find that chapter the most interesting part), but a lot of people seem to like it, so that might be of interest.

You're more likely to find books where the Orks are the enemy. I read Rynn's World recently. Again, I wasn't a fan of the book but there are lots of Orks in it. If you're familiar with Sandy Mitchell's Cain series, Death or Glory, Caves of Ice and The Last Ditch have Orks in them. In Death or Glory they're the enemy throughout and a lot of time is spent travelling through Ork territory, seeing how they control a conquered city and that sort of thing. They're not in Caves fo Ice as much (though they remain present throughout the stroy), and in The Last Ditch they've been pretty well sidelined by the time you're about halfway through. FIfteen Hours also has many encounters with Orks, and is again a very popular and well-known Guard novel.

Personally I'd like to see Dan Abnett writing about Orks more. I say that because the second Gaunt's Ghosts novel, Ghostmaker, is built around a series of short tories about each of the major characters and Rawne's story is about him and Gaunt trying to escape an Ork force on an ice world. His portrayal of Orks really plays up their tough aspects and leaves out the comedy altogether, and so it's quite interesting. I also have Brothers of the Snake by him and there is a story in that about Space Marines battling Orks, but I haven't read it yet.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

I recomend reading Imperial Glory. It was a strange feeling rooting for the ork when at the beginning of the book all I wanted was the IG to kick some green ass. I have to admit that the end of the book has a pretty amazing twist but I don't want to spoil it for you in case you want to get it.

Hope feeds Tzeentch, who will do horrible things to your planet to reward you for your service. Ergo, Hope is evil, and you should stop having it, but you can't have despair because then Nurgle gets a free ride. You could be angry about this, but that'd just get Khorne's jollies off. And heck you can't even get your own jollies off without Slaanesh giggling and farting out some daemons. And if you manage to avoid all that, some genestealers might infiltrate your planet and bring a hive fleet crashing down on you any way.

The 'ork' story in Fear the Alien (Iron Inferno)was a big disappointment to me. (Especially since the book made a big deal of advertising it as the FIRST EVER STORY FROM AN ORK POINT OF VIEW!)

It contains exactly one line of dialogue. (Spoiler: It's "Waaagh!") That alone was kind of a let down, but it was just a very predictable, lame story. Normally I try to find the positive side of disappointing things, but I really couldn't find any with Iron Inferno. I really like the orks, and would love to see a story from an ork perspective. I don't think a first person perspective story would work very well, but a third person limited perspective story would be amazing.

Welcome to the Freakshow!

Imperial Glory is a great ork related book. I would also suggest "The Purging of Kadillus" it has the Dark Angels taking on Warlord Ghazghkull, its a pretty good read.

Best Ork story is definetly Blood and Thunder. It's told from mostly from the Ork perspective (though narration is given by a captured Imperial Guardsmen witnessing the events) yet also gives a coherent story (the rise of a lowly Ork boy to a mighty Warboss).
