What is the recommended carrying case for FOW? I was looking at some last night at my FLGS and most of the pre-cuts are made for 25mm figures. Who makes good FOW sized trays and how many slots am I looking for, as a beginner?

Thanks

You can make your own, with rubberized steel and then buy some BF magnets for infantry.

The whole thing cost about £20, a small aluminium case and some Rubbersteel matts and then the magnets on the bottom of them.

So my infantry is really safe.

For my Vehicles I use a KR Multicase.

I like FELDHEER but they are uber expensive but very nice, with specific Trays for FOW.

KR multicase is a good balance between space, quality and economy.

I have a KR multicase which has FoW specific foam trays. I chose 3 vehicle half width trays and 4 infantry half width trays. It cost about 24 pounds at the time of purchases. The trays are sized to the medium bases size for FoW and both infantry and vehicles fit snugly. I can put small bases in paris without too much movement. You can snip the foam to turn two medium's into a large pocket for artillery and objective markers. These are slighyl over long as the foam boundary is now gone, but on the whole, my models are very safe.
One issue: you need to be careful not to have gun barrels stick over the base too far (or at all) and not to have gun barrels to "high" as they can bend under pressure. If you think it through as you are building models you can prevent damage. I have a couple of 2cm flak wagons where one gun broke as it was too fragile and glued too highly and caught on the next tray. That my recommendation.
I was thinking of magnetising the bases and putting in another solid case, but for now, I am happy.

I have a Battlefoam FoW bag and love it, although I will need some more vehicle trays...

I would love a Battlefoam bag... But they are far, far too expensive. You get what you pay for, thats true but to spend as much as you need to get Battlefoam on transporting little toy soldiers about is a serious question.

I'll second KR multicase too, although I'd not seen the magnetising option done quite so well before.

I should say that despite my best efforts to buy the right case from KR I balls'd it up and bought a mparky infantry set of trays for my most tank army.

Okay for shermans and cromwells but less good for churhills and challengers. Still half an hour with a sharp knife and a hot glue gun and hay presto! A perfect fit. Works well for those large asked gun teams as well.

Wow you Americans have access to everything at reasonable prices. Everything in the UK is ridiculously expensive and restrictive in comparison. 20 Dollars for a case thats like £15, seriously

The battlefoam cases, when properly kitted out are completely awesome though and worth the money. I resisted for ages, but finally got tired of broken hatches and guns and bought one. I picked up a small one and with 4 trays. For our current EW regularly weekly desert slugfests, in that one bag I can include the minis for:

A british rifle company
A BAR w/1 heavy and 1 light company
A crusader company
A full Armored car company
4 25pdrs
Supporting units to take the rifle company as motor platoons instead
Multiple breda AA portees

It is just amazing how much you can fit in these things if you plan properly. I even minimized costs by buying fewer thicker trays and storing my vehicles and tanks "on end" or "on side" instead of sitting flat on their tracks in the tray.

I know but I'm an Avid collector of miniatures, I like large collections for my forces so I can change the list week by week and it's still the same force. Keeps it fresh, I do like BF bags. If someone gave me one I would be over the moon, I just cannot bring myself to buy one. If I was Pro-tourney player and played at least 1 tourney a month I would invest in one in order to protect them in transit.

I concede, that they are very, very good quality and very nice.

I definitely can't fit ALL of my british minis in the case I bought. Not going to happen, but it definitely holds enough that if you look at the list I can field *at least* five different companies with varying support options out of what I can carry in it at once, so I'm not going to complain too much that I can't fit it all. Going to swap out the crusader company minis tomorrow and dump in my EW africa infantry tanks for the next large North Africa game we have planned out for this Sunday. Best part is that if anyone shows up that isn't expected I've got plenty of extra minis for them to be able to use as well.

I will agree with you mwnciboo that they *are* pricey to pick up, especially if you want the massive sized one to bring ALL of your minis in. I would hazard to say that it could take a week or two to configure all of the trays to fit into that massive case too.
