Specifically...

How does a unit affected by the psycotrope result that forces you to attack the members of your unit work with an alternate mode of attack?

Examples:

Yriel - Eye of Wrath
Crow - ... well, any of his attacks
Gabriel Seth - Whirlwind of Gore

The effected model gets to choose which mode to attack with, but must use the best weapon that they have, i.e., Bolt pistol and Power fist...you use the fist.

Rayage, if they have a special weapon they must use it, not necessarily the best weapon. 'Best' would be subject to interpretation. For example, versus grots the bolt pistol would be best, as it strikes in init order, still wounds on 2+ and they don't get a save.

Actually, while valid points, that's not quite what I was looking for... I was more looking for abilities that state that you can use "this" ability instead of taking normal CC attacks.

Example: Gabriel Seth attacks a GK squad that contains Psycotrope grenades and rolls a... 6(?) therefore forcing Seth to attack his squad. Can he then bypass the effect by using a nonstandard attack like his Whirlwind of Gore?

No, because the GK player chooses how he attacks

p.55 BA=Whirlwind of Gore: Instead of making his normal attacks,
Seth can instead choose to whirl Blood Reaver in a glittering,
gore-splattered arc. If he does so, Seth inflicts a single
automatic hit on all enemy models in base contact.

p.60 GK=Any models that fail must strike blows against their
own unit during this Assault phase, rather than against the
enemy, exactly as if they were on your side.

You declare if you want to use the Whirlwind and auto-hit your own unit, or roll to hit with 4/5 attacks.

Not every shadow, but any shadow

I'd have to agree the line "exactly as if it were on your side" means the GK player gets to choose the method of attack, special abilities included.

Moral: don't be in base contact with Gabby when the GK Pschotrokes are about.
