When did this happen? Krylon used to have Black, White, Grey and Brown primer. They were cheap $3-4, and covered well without obscuring detail.

Yesterday I walked by the spray paint aisle in Walmart and saw these weird new two in one Paint and Primer cans by Krylon. One was green, the other red. The drying time was 25 minutes, which if my memory is correct is different from the old basic Krylon primer.

Anyone try these new fangled paints on models? And is Krylon getting rid of their basic primers?

I checked out their site, there are quite a few colors several kinds of blues, reds, yellows etc;

Could be a much cheaper alternative to army painter... anyone test these out? someone else must have seen these spray cans before...

I haven't tested them, but next time I'm in Wally-world, I'll check it out.

I highly doubt Krylon would get rid of their basic Primers. If they did, people wouldn't be able to do their normal everyday projects, ya know?

Even if they do, Rustoleum works great as well.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I am just curious about them, since Army Painter is so darn expensive. The two colors I saw were gloss though, that doesn't seem to be ideal for models.

Well, Krylon isnt getting rid of thier old primers thats for sure, i have seen these cans on the shelves for quite some time, sometime on thier own display or right next to the primers. I doubt they'll ge getting rid of thier old cans, cause i recall seeing all the colors on the shelves. i wouldnt reccomend getting the paint an primer cans. most likely because they are gloss finish.

I actually just bought a can of the flat black paint+primer. I'll test it out tomorrow and let you know how it does.

I too bought a can of the grey paint+primer to test out. It's not raining today so I'll give it a shot after work.

I did a little more research on their site. Looks like the black and white come in flat, satin or gloss, but the different shades of blues, greens, yellows, reds and so on only list gloss, which is disappointing.

I've used the flat black, white, grey, pink, and brown colors. The flat and satin work well. I've used them on GW plastics and metal, as well as Privateer Press plastic/resin. They paints work well and are easy to basecoat over.

Just sprayed a 2nd edition bolter marine. I'll upload a pic once it's dry which could be up to 25 minutes....

I sprayed some spare cardboard first and it seemed a little thick. I backed up a little and gave a couple of light passes...

I've got a couple other snapfit bolter marines to sacrifice for experimentation...

Edit:
Here's a pic of the painted dude. The paint covered well and didn't fill in details (what litle there was).

Cool, thanks.

So what do you guys think? All of the new colored paint + primer sprays are in gloss rather than flat or satin - would it be a bad idea to use a glossy spray on a model?

Further painting doesn't stick that well to gloss paint.

YMMV but I've found that I end up wasting more time trying to get decent results over gloss paint than I saved by using a colored primer.

Krylon rules, I've seen their new colors in my local hardware store and I want to use them as an excuse to start a new army.

I may be cheap, but my time is worth money too. Army Painter sprays may end up being 'cheaper' overall compared to the 2-in-1 Krylon sprays.

I agree, at least with their basic black/white/grey primers. I've never had a problem applying them, even when I was first starting and not experienced at all. For four dollars they are amazing.
