hey guys, long time lurker here. since i've gotten off my butt and started putting some more regular work into my projects, figured i'd post some pics and get feedback as a way to stay motivated.

right now i'm trying to finish my tervigon, since it's been laying in pieces for 6 months. irony is that the weekend i dig him out and get some real work done on him, looks like GW's finally getting around to releasing the terv/tfex kits in two weeks. well, i can still use him to distinguish a HQ terv vs a troops choice terv i guess.

pics:

basic pose:

nothing really groundbreaking here, standard fex/spider kitbash. i have his 2nd set of arms set low on his chest, t-rex style. top set will be magnetized for ST/CC swaps. i'll also add four pairs of hormagant ST under the abdomen for egg-tending (like a broody centipede). i've cast the center row of vents and front carapace armor but didn't like the way either turned out, so i did some repair work on them and i'll recast them tonight.

here's a shot of the right thigh:

i have the shin greened out and the hoof constructed. no pics of the shin yet, but here's the hoof:

sideview of carapace w/ armor and center vent row:

more pics of my harpy (that's too huge to be a harpy, it's harridan sized...), tyrants, and my spore after dinner.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
the harpy is a trygon conversion. wingspan is over 25" but can't recall exactly. i'll break her out and measure her later.

torso, head:

wing joint, magnetized/pinned. not really very well illustrated by this pic but next one should clear the design up somewhat.

rear view, with wings (still wire/skeletonized only):

sideview, wings removed, CSM for scale:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
WIP spore. genestealer for scale. the main body is some lego dinosaur egg thing, similar to those plasma hatchers. i'll have several rings of armor and spikes/vanes, with gribbly bits detailed between the overlapping plates.

top view, with gas vents/thrusters

this is another project that kind of got shelved. the guys i play with are all new (not like i'm some grizzled vet or anything) and keep wanting to play lower point values. hard to fit pods in at low points (aside from singles like the doom or w/e).

some updates. did some casting work, made a mold for the legs and got them cast tonight. turned out very well, especially considering i didn't degas the mold or the resin and didn't cure the resin in a pressure pot. two bubbles that destroyed one claw and one toe, but looking back on it it's really less damage than most people get out of their retail finecast. i'm very pleased with the result with what was essentially a casting exercise.

did some more work on the harpy. the wings were proving to be a real pain in the ass. i had the skeletonized frame done for quite some time. i took a disposable plastic cutting board (it's thin, tough, flexible plastic of some sort) and cut out sections for the wing membrane. problem was i couldn't get the stuff to adhere for love or money. superglue and modeling glue, neither worked. i found out by accident that the apoxiesculpt i was using to create the fleshy parts WOULD stick to it, so got some work done:

going to add a thumb claw and armor plates on the leading edge of the wing. once i get both of the wings done i'm casting them as there's no way in hell i'm doing three sets of these things by hand.

real problem with this model is it's huge; it's really harridan sized...

i started sawing my WIP pod into sections for casting, but that's going to have to wait until next month. have too much going on this month and too many unfinished models laying around to justify buying more supplies before my old projects are done.

thank you, sir ~ i appreciate it.

got this beast put together and primered. the primer made it clear i had some minor gap-filling in the built-up shoulder/deltoid area where i added the magnets to the arms. i'm about to start basing it, so will have some apoxiesculpt left over and will hit it then.

pics:

did some more work on the harrpy/harridan's wings:

coming along, nice but slow. since i've decided it's retardedly huge and will basically be a scratchbuilt harridan instead of a harpy, finishing it's not a priority as we don't do apoc. i'm going to get a pack of ravenors and bulk them out to make my harpies instead. a T5 MC shouldn't have a 25" wingspan...

i'll probably do my spore pod next and get that sculpt finished and parted out for casting.

cc is welcome! always looking for feedback and ideas.

i have neglected this project log. i am a bad person, and i should feel bad.

so a few updates:

after dicking round with dipping, i found that it saved no time for me whatsoever and resulted in a big mess. my models turned out well, the problem is that i put way too much detail into them (even the little bugs) so that dipping just made the whole thing take longer and resulted in pain and screaming...

so i tried washes. works great, lasts long time. here are a couple of WIP shots and finals of a HG and genestealer:

before wash

after wash

stealer:

i picked up some vargheist wings to try for shrikes; stickytacked them together for a test:

the wings are pretty much perfect right out of the box; need minimal GS'ing for some nid details and they're good to go.

also picked up some zombiedragon wings/body/legs for a harpy. it's much more size-appropriate than my 24" wingspan monstrosity. body is like 7" long w/o the head/neck.
