Hey guys I was wondering, I want to play a Nurgle themed Chaos army. As the codex stands now, what is a competitive (as possible, since i know theme armies usually aren't) list of Nurgle that I could play? I mean in the fact that I can paint and explain CSM Nurgle, but I couldn't use Khorne Berserkers even if I painted them Nurgle cause it would be a little hard to explain. Also what exactly are Oblits? From what I have read before they aren't really ANY Chaos God's creation.... Thanks for your help guys! I was originally thinking about Typhus and a bunch of plague marines. But I am just starting to build a Chaos list for giggles out of converted SM stuff that I find and get for cheap. Right now I am giving Papa Nurgle a chuckle by blighting some Dreadnoughts that were once shiny gold!

If I remember right, obliterators are a multi-god chaos thing, so you should be alright including them in this army.
No matter what, a nurgle army will be small.
Are you looking at a more stationary and shoot army, or a get up close and shoot army?

How do you mean "chaos". If you just want chaos space marines it will be hard to make the list even semi competitive (those marks are expensive). Chaos demons however support all nurgle fairly well. They even have a special character that grants absurd bonuses as the game goes on.

I was looking more at CSM (Thus Typhus, Plague Marines and Obliterators). And I was just kinda looking at a "more" well rouned Nurgle list that could do ok against most armies. I am not looking for a tournament grade army or I wouldn't be getting into Chaos and going only Nurgle.

Chaos marines with the mark of nurgle work fairly well.

Oblits are simply very, very, very old, ancient, and warped chaos space marines that have been heavily taken over by the power of chaos and the warp. They are equally open to all of the chaos gods' influence, so they are perfectly acceptable (and encouraged) in a nurgle army. Berzerkers, Noise Marines, and Thousand Sons won't be "fluffy" in your army, but every other choice is acceptable and fluffy, though anything particularly fast is a bit harder to explain (though still fine).
Consider a greater summoned daemon if you really want to get fluffy.

I'll admit that I haven't really read much/any fluff, but would it be beyond the realms of impossibility for say some Berzerkers to join a Nurgle force in battle?
From what I gather the gods don't particularly like each other, but if the forces of Nurgle needed some assistance, would Khorne lend a hand?
But anyway, you can take whatever you like its your army, does it really matter if you take some Noise Marines in a Nurgle army?
As for a Nurgle army, a lot of it is down to modelling/painting really, obviously taking Nurgle (or MoN) units is the 'best' choice for fluff reasons, but you can take a squad of Terminators, and just paint them green, and they won't really look Nurgley, they will just look like green terminators, its the conversions, and thats what is most fun about Nurgle in my opinion.
Typhus won't be worth it at 1000 points in my opinion, and Warptime was ruined by FAQ, so your best choice may be a Lord.
Depending on what style army your going for, Dreads are fun (2xCCW is best), Chosen are useful for extra shooty power, and Terminators are probably a little expensive at 1000 points.
Plagues are the only troop you really need, you could take CSM, (or Zerkers if you want, they add a nice CC punch) but staying pure Nurgle, there is no reason to not take Plagues in my opinion...
Fast at 1000 should probably be ignored, Bikes are good for icons for lessers or Oblits, also double melta suicide. Spawn are fun for conversions, but will die, horribley. Raptors I like, but probably won't fit all that well, and Nurgle raptors probably aren't that wonderful.
Oblits, best heavy choice (apparently, they always fail when I use them), but for Nurgle I personally like tanks because of the cool, Nurgley stuff you can do to them, but then again you can probably convert your Oblits to be pretty nurgley as well. Defilers work well with Dreads I think.

Nurgle terminators are fairly awesome, and I have seen some great conversions of them. They are also very common to nurgle themed armies and pack a punch in the game as well.

Wow this thread went from only a few replies to explosion! Thanks for all the advice! Well I thought that if I really wanted to I could always just take zerkers and nurgle them or have a nurgle counts as zerkers unit. But I am trying to pull mainly just the Nurgle stuff. I have to agree on the conversions though, I have 3 dread I am working on converting with some bits and GS. Not to go off topic but, anyone have any good tut's on Nurgling stuff? I really think painting and converting nurgle will be fun even if they will get destroyed by my friends GK.... Oh well I've beat him with my Tau in 2 games so there might be a little hope for Papa Nurgle!

I have a friend I play with regularly who runs a Nurgle list, and trust me you want Plague Marines. 3+ Armor, Toughness 5, FNP, defensive grenades... the list goes on. Once a group of plague marines sits on an objective, it's going to take some serious firepower to get them off it. You'd be well served to take as many of those as you can afford in this list.

check out my gallery for nurgle converted terminators
Nurgle is good at 1250 - 2000 pt games... 1000 pt game is hard
probably need:
daemon prince with palaquin
3 pm squads with meltas and champs with powerfists and rhinos - though rhinos dont really fit into their fluff - see WD 265 and the old chaos codex
4 obliterators

It's stated in the 4th edition CSM codex that most obliterators were once techmarines. No-one really knows how they came to be, but it also provides speculation that they're infected with a warp based virus, although the theory is a bit shaky.
