Hey guys, so i just finished the book "Space Wolf" and more than anything its made me what to run Ragnar in my space wolf army. However, as im sure your all aware the current model of Ragnar is extremely dated, i wouldn't say terrible, its just old. For you who haven't seen it, here it is:

So of course the sculpter in me wants to break out and custom make my own Ragnar to truely do him justice, but there lies the problem. Until know the sculpter in me has been content with wolf fur cloaks, and going from that to a full blown model is just not going to happen.

My original plan was to use my extensive wolf bits and just scratch build one, but doing so only made marines that looked at most wolf guard, not Ragnar.

This realisation, coupled with my terrible sculpting skills, lead me to scour the GW website for appropriate models that i could butcher and convert.

Here are the finalists:

This one would be quite the task, the obvious is that I would have to remove any ultra marine markings on him (if any) and the replace both his weapons with the great frostblade and a bolt pistol. Then I would have to redo his hair to give him the topnot. Also if i was feeling brave i would give him teeth. Then i would have to space wolf him up with markings and fur.

This i think is the best bet. Not only is he in a great pose, all i have to do is remove the white scars iconography and replace the weapon and its all good from there.

This one all i would have to do is remove the blood angels icons and give him a topnot. And then space wolves him up with bitz and bobs, this guy is in second place imo.

Last resort would be to scratch build him but using the legs and what not from the assault sprue, to give him a great running pose. Tbh this is the most work and may not turn out looking that great.

So thats all the ideas I have, would love to hear feedback and your opinions on what I should go with?

I think that the best way to go on this is to use a combination of Wolf Pack and Assault marine bits to make him. I'm not a fan of any of those base minis for Ragnar. (Although Seth is pretty close.)

I think if you use the wolf cloak back and dynamic legs with a good head and proper wargear you should be fine.

A heavily converted Seth would be one of your better bets. I've seen Khan converted into a solid Ragnar before as well, using bits from the standard Wolf Pack box.

It really wouldn't be that much of an undertaking to scracth build one. The space wolf sprues take a bit of inspiration from him, so I assume you'll be able to find close enough bits from them if you look (and the original model, and the forgeworld one didn't really have that much detail anyhow, so you could just make stuff up). I doubt that you would be able to get one now, but have you tried looking for the diorama that the Black Library produced of him?
