I have a question about how I can use Medusas with Bation Breacher shells. I've read alot of reviews and opinions on the IG Codex and individual units but it's never been mentioned whether the Heavy status of Bastion Breacher shells allows the Medusa to move at Combat Speed and still fire. As well I'm unclear if the extra D6 that`s rolled for armour pentration is added to the previous D; or like all Ordnance you pick the highest.

Bastion Breachers aren't Ordnance, so it essentially acts like a melta weapon and gives you 2D6 penetration.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

Thank You Avatar 720 for your response, that cleared it all up for me and raised my opinion of Medusas substantially. Seems like 2 would be excellent to flank 2LM Executioners, or rove behind a gun line.

But since I (hopefully) have your attention I'd like to ask an unrelated question that I know may raise some ire since the online community here seems (to me) to be of one mind about this.

How can anyone think that you can fire anything other then lasguns from Chimeras? I've read the blurb in the Codex that describes it and it seems black and white to me. Even though if I'm wrong it gives me another great tool. It just seems like wishful thinking to me to assume you can fire a melta gun out of a FIXED lasgun emplacement.

It is a misconception. The little blurb about fixed lasgun emplacements is more fluff than it is rules. The simple fact is that the fire point is the hatch and 5 models can fire from it. Those can be meltaguns as well as lasguns.

It's not a fixed lasgun emplacement. You're reading the fluff. The rules say it has firing points and you can fire whatever out of a firing point.

It doesn't seem like fluff to me, it seems like a qualifying statement to the obviously absurd idea of having 5 guys peering out of a single man size hatch all carrying special or heavy weapons.

"Five models can fire from the top Chimera's top hatch. In reality, (what's actually happening) several are firing from the fixed lasgun emplacements along either flank, but for simplicity we assume all shots to be taken from the top hatch (so there's less whining about whether or not certain lasguns have LOS or are in range because they're farther back on the model)

So if what you say is true, why do we put lasguns on Chimeras if they have no bearing on the model?
But I digress, there's no sense dragging this out as I expect this has been talked about alot already.

Would the rule still function if you were to remove everything but the first sentence? Yes. The first sentence is the most important (and really the only one that matters).

"Five models can fire from the Chimera's top hatch."

The rest of it has no bearing whatsoever on the rules. They are simply explaining why you are firing from the hatch when there are "obvious" fire points on the model.

Because they used to be lasguns only, and fired from the lasgun mounts. The new codex and new edition changed that. You now have 5 generic firing points.

Well if the models will be changed then that satisfies me

They won't be, because they don't need to be, and they look better with the lasguns.

That is precisely why the caveats are even in the codex - because they didn't want to change the model (or even need to).

Or you could flip the lasguns upside down. This will give a nice rounded dome on the outside that you could paint up as view ports. That is what I did with my Inquisitorial chimera that I took in the old daemonhunters codex due to it not having the extra guns or firepoints.

Or just glue a strip of plastic-card (or whatever you have handy) to the inside of the hull to cover the holes. If you don't like the viewport this creates you can then fill the hole with model putty or GS to taste...or even shave off the round portholes and putty the remains for a smooth surface.

A Chimera with the portholes intact:

A Chimera with the holes filled and shaved down. I used the inside holder peice to create new boxed windows.
