Hey everyone, I just have a quick question on using simple-green for stripping minis. Sorry, I couldnt find the answer anywhere else.

I was just wondering how long it takes until a batch of simple-green loses its stripping effectiveness (as in, how many miniatures, aprox). I ask, because I have a whole tau army to strip, so I want to know how much I will need.

Thanks

I'm not sure that it loses effectiveness. I've used it for weeks and it'll still take paint off.

1 bottle. I've done a Devil fish and 30 Firewarriors using about a cup of cleaner. And it's got power left in it.

so how does one use simple green to strip off paint? Just let them sit in it or keep drenching them in it im new to stripping paint and am wondering the process. ive read about the break cleaner but that seemed to have some flaws to it referring to messing up the models.

Take container.
Pour in SG (or other stripping agent).
Dump in models.
Put lid on securely, swirl and leave for a set period of time.

Come back, remove them, give them a scrub with an old toothbrush and rinse under fresh water.

Done.

I swirl and shake at random intervals, not sure that it helps but it looks nice when it foams.

I have a Glass Jar that once upon a time contained Shmuckers Carmel Sauce for Ice Cream Sundays. It's maybe 8oz. I drop in 6 FireWarriors, then pour in the liquid till they're covered. (I use Purple Power, but the same works for Super Clean and Simple Green)

I then shake the Jar until the foam reaches the lid. I set it aside, and go about my day. If my son is about, it will then be shaken violently every 10 minutes (gotta love helpful 5 year olds) if he's not around, I tend to shake till foamy every 30 minutes to an hour.

After 5-6 hours I pull them out using tongs, and brush them down with a tooth brush. I scrub them about as hard as I scrub my molars. TIP: be sure to do this over a sink, with the drain CLOSED. Occasionally a little bit, like an arm or an arial will come off. You don't want to loose it.

After the Scrub I hit them with some water, maybe a little scrub more if I see loose stuff, then if they're not up to standard (almost never are) I drop them back in the jar. Shake it up again, and let sit over night.

THe morning scrub tends to see plastic like new, with only the worst crevices holding any paint.

There are guys on here who say a good ultasonic cleaner (about $20 from Walmart or your local equivalent) will do all of the above for you in 120 minutes or so.
