Probably work

No clue about GW, and location would obviously have some influence, but I've been a "manager" at a store before and I made about $25000. I would expect it personally to be within the $20-30k range.

What's near minimum wage there?

I think it was around the £20-24k range last time it came up.

Well, at least we know now what Matt Ward makes, and ergo the reason for the quality of his fluff.

I've applied for jobs with GW a couple of times and both times got to the interveiw stage. Remember if you start you will be on less than you would be if you were a manager as you would only be a Trainee. Plus once you are a manager it all depends on the size of the store you are running.

Found the last time it came up.

Should be somewhat of an interesting read. Also while it isn't old enough to be considered thread necromancy to post in it, I'd say just leave it lay where it is.

Back when I worked for GW a store manager's salary was about 25k a year plus bonuses based on store performance

Gawd, 25K USD isn't much for a store manager. How often were the bonuses and what they bring your yearly up to? (If you don't mind me asking). In my many "wouldn't it be neat if I worked here" thoughts, GW store manager popped up at least once. Also, any other perks? Cheap minis, etc?

I would say that it depends on the store ranking. I would suggest minimum 18k up to 25k for big store (Central London)

I would expect there to be at least an employee discount. 10-20% would be reasonable.

Also, based on other discussions about GW stores, that would be the base rate. Others have said that there are (monthly?) bonuses for employees based on total store sales.

It's pitiful. I thought last time this came up the manager's wage is initially £14K for several months going up to £15-16K upon completion of training. And the London weighting isn't that much on top at all. I suppose you get bonuses, but you are probably dying of stress in some one-man store.

10-20% discount is also pitiful if correct, most shops offer their staff about 30%. I imagine GW are closer to this, their wages are so bad it's the only way their staff could afford an army.

Have the GW employee discounts dropped that substantially? A friend of mine worked there in 2007 as a regular employee (red shirt) and received 50% anything he bought.

From what I understand the discount is still 50%

Yeah, I'm seeing that from searches on the internet. But it needs to be that good because the pay is so bad. I keep seeing comments that people would love a GW job to buy the cheap miniatures, forgetting that after food and rent they won't have much left. You're better off getting a better job and buying the stuff online.

GW store managers are paid less than leading hand Store-people in warehousing.
Even the 50% discount can't make up for that.

Although the retail experience will stand you in good stead if you decide to join the military (you will have NO problem shooting at children after working for GW).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I used to work at a games & comics store, employees got product at cost+10%. I work there part time as a second job, mostly for the discount.

Whats my game?

Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch

Open to other games too

I think that it's pretty obvious that anyone longing for a true professional level salary won't be working for GW at the retail level. However a 50% discount on a hobby you're likely very into and spend most of your disposable money on anyway and what are likely incredible health benefits (benefit of a european company) might make it passable as a job for awhile. Particularly a 2 income household. Besides, with bonuses likely tied to sales incentives you could probably do ok.

Find your skill or interest and get a job in it. Much better than chasing money, if you're good at it the money will come anyway. If you're not good at it....practice. you'll be happier doing what you enjoy, money might not be there at first but dont give in to temptation

I would work at GW as a 2nd job part time as a redshirt to get the 50% discount and pass the savings on to Australia and NewZealand!! Muahahahahaha!

From what I'm told in the UK retail side of things it's this.

Manager - £15,500-21,500 depending on the size of the store and bonus if targets are hit.
Trainee manager - £14,000.

There is London weighting and a 50% discount off models and Forgeworld books, 20% off Forgeworld models.

To be fair, for a retail job in the UK, it's not too bad.
