One of the briefs for my graphic design GCSE is to design and build a scale model building.
I have been told it will be hard to do as my school dosn't have a laser cutter yet.
I was confused by this as I was thinking of making it out of plasticard, do you need a laser cutter for that?
It has to be a flat pack that can be easily assembled.

Does your school have a CNC mill? The product design workshop would be the best place to look. Regardless, you don't need any power tools to work with plasticard in my experience, a steel ruler and a sharp knife used properly should accomplish the same thing.

Laser cutters are for babies.

You can build great models /buildings out of plasticard, you just have to be methodical and plan it all.

Do you know any architects, etc? They usually build model structures by hand, they could give you a hand (if you email/phone some, you'll probably get some positive feedback).

I thought I didn't need a laser cutter
I'm not sure weather to make it intact or completely ruined.

Don't go for ruined. It's hard to make a ruined building look good, unless you're comfortable around the interior structure (cables, sewage, etc) and how "strict" the evaluation is.

First thing is finding out the scale of the building, the amount of detail needed, how many floors, moving parts, modularity, is it your design or do you have to model a real life building, etc.

It just says a scale building. So I will probaly go for a steam-punk theme.
Cogs and levers and chimnies.

It didn't say which scale or any other specifics apart from it had to be made as a flat pack

Were there be dragons....

Design it all on 2d design if you've got it (most schools have), then print it off on paper and use them as templates for building up your model. It will allow you to see what it will look like beofre you take the scalple to the plastiecard.

Have you ever used the stuff before?

Yrs we have 2d design unfortunately I have not used plasticard before.
Oh well plenty of tome to practise while I'm designing and doing the paper work, hopefully.
