Character on their own get a 4+ for being nearby.
An infantry model in a unit of Monstrous Infantry is not alone, and as such cannot claim the 4+.

If you're facing cannons, it's a bad idea.

yup, he actually is more protected if he's a few inches away then if he's right inside them

Only if there's infantry nearby. The 4+ Look Out Sir-Lite only still requires same troop type.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

So what if an infantry character is in a unit of Monstrous Infantry, but there's regular infantry within 6"?

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

First off, it's 3" unless FAQ'd somewhere. Second, there's 3 sections for LoS.

1) Champions in a unit of same type (not this).
2) Lone Characters. Who must be within 3" of same type for a LoS.
3) Characters in a unit. Who get Champion rules.

I believe 2 and 3 are mutually-excluse as you can't be both Lone and in a unit.

3", and they arent LONE so the rules for LONE characters do not apply. No LOS of any kind
