So i was thinking of starting up a Nercon force with getting the most bang for my buck and the best practical starter stuff. tell me what you guys think.

Necron Battleforce
Ghost ark box
Annihilation Barge (and use free Overlord as my main overlord)

This way both squads of Warriors get a transport, i make the immortals into deathmarks, use the annihilation barge as a solid heavy support choice and then finally we use the overlord that it comes with as my HQ. (i like how he looks more than the main one anyway)
i know some stuff about necrons but i think thisis a solid force. anything that i should drop or add? good start or bad?

would this be a good way to start? or would it be better off with something else?

That is a perfectly good start. However you should know that you are going to be around 800-900 points depending on what you give your lord or if you take special HQs. You could stretch it to 1k by giving yourself silly upgrades. But what I would do is use a proxy to represent one of our other vehicles first.

This way you can test out a few builds without committing the money (in this rather expensive hobby). And it lets you play at a more common point value while you are testing everything out.

well ive watched tons of battle reports, thanks to miniwargaming.com with the new necrons at play, though i did like them before. and i have had a look at the codex.

well to be honest this army is gonna be a secret for a lil while from my friends, wanna surprise them. but i have built a few lists from a friends codex. BUT my point about my friends is im usually an ork player against pie plate lovers, so i usually love the dedicated transport use, and then on top the deathmarks are great for that hidden group that can pop in and just kill things like theres no tomorrow. im just trying to think the most stuff i can get to be cost effective. so when you say test out a few builds what do you mean? proxy my orkz and get a feel for more of the necrons stragety? or just buy the battle force and actually buy the overlord HQ?

Both Barges are great units on the tabletop. You can't go wrong getting a few of them. I have 5 myself, lol.

The Battleforce is a great value too. If I was just now starting out, I'd probably consider two of them right off the bat. You can use spare warriors to convert into Crypteks.

You really can't go wrong with any of the Necron models that are out. Praetorians are a bit useless, but their box is bit and conversion heaven, and Lychguard are still pretty decent.

When I say proxy and test out some builds i mean to get you up to that 1k. For example you have your models you listed above. And lets say for example that you build a list with them that ends up at 850. You should try taking one of your ork deff dreads and fielding it as a triarch stalker. Now maybe you don't like the stalker after having played a game with it. So how about instead tweaking your list to drop 25 points, and taking one of our vehicles that costs 175 points.

Maybe now you find that you really just don't like the way the list is playing because you want a better HQ, well lets say you take mr stormlord who boosts you up to around 900 you can now maybe take another vehicle and field it as a second annihilation barge.

That way instead of buying a second barge model or the stormlord or whatever you play a game and figure it out. I don't personally like seeing people take an entire ork army and say "these are necrons" but when you have 90% necron army and have to use 1-2 models as a proxy to see if they fit your playstyle I and im sure many others are more than happy to play against you.

When in doubt burn it, then burn yourself for doubting.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense. yeah i dont like entire army proxy but its way cost effective. which is a good way to not waste your money. thats the only reasons nad times that i do it. thanks for the tips. they helped out a lot! so you do agree however with what i am thinking of getting to get, and then just see what works?

I like your ideas. Personally I'd make the Immortals into Immortals, not Deathmarks. Deathmarks are not worth it in my opinion. Everything else is a good choice. I'd get a few more barges if I were you though.

on the forum. Obviously

You could use vassal. That will save you the trouble of getting together all the things to proxy with.

Have you actually played with Deathmarks? They are actually pretty damn good. I thought the same thing, until I started playing with them. Put them with a Veiltek, and you can almost guarantee that you'll kill whatever you choose to mark. I've used them very effectively against things like Squads of Longfangs, Canoptek Spyder squads, and other things that tend to stick toward the backfield. The Template alone can kill an entire squad.

They ARE a suicide unit, but they are a very good suicide unit.

Good to hear, love the models, and for some reason I was drawn to them. Maybe because effective snipers are fun to have around.

I've had to make some ballsy deepstrikes to get them to work sometimes, but they tend to preform well. If they do survive, they make an excellent contesting unit for later in the game!
