Hey guys, I got my Relic Contemptor Dreadnought built and painted, and was hoping for some feed back on it.

Being my first Forge World piece, I didn't feel comfortable making it in a quite so dynamic pose.

Thanks for the nice (and harsh) criticisms!

(Sorry about the picture, it may be kind of bad, was taken at our local GW)

Edit: gah, trying to fix the link.

Wow that Trygon is spectacular!

Oh the dread? Yeah it's cool

I think the base needs something on it, it looks so empty. But I'm only saying that because I think you got the UM colors perfectly.

I was thinking of throwing a few half Termagaunts on it, or some half built chaos marines...

What would you suggest throwing on the base?

Staying on target.....

It looks very good. I would go for some more highlights though to make it pop a little more. I like the green on it too

The green is to denote which company he belongs to, and if you notice on the heraldic shield on the leg, i have painted a fist wrapping around the U.

And yeah, i was thinking about highlighting it a bit more - i have a feeling that's what mostly held me back from winning a local painting contest.

Ah yeh, third right?

Yeh go for it buddy Build up the blue and also give some more depth to the white - I start from astronomican grey.

Also I am looking to buy one of these beauties but like you don't have a ton of experience with FW. What's it like to make? Heaven or hell??

The hardest part for me was getting the legs together with the body to make it look like it was believably walking.

And yeah, Fourth Company.

I would put tall grasses and tufts on the base, as long as it isn't overdone.

Hmm.. that's a good idea. I'll look into it. Maybe that Mordheim tufts they have at the store, or whatever?

I would suggest tall grass and/or a few large rocks to break up the base. I also would like to see some highlighting and/or washes on parts of the model. The gold and helmet in particular could you a wash and layered highlights and the blue could use some edging of some kind.

The blue is a wonderful color though, looks VERY ultramarine in a good way. This looks good it just needs a little more to make it really pop.

Yes, I use actual ultramarines blue for my Ultramarines colours. I put a devlan mud was on the gold for now, as well as a 2:1:1 ultramarines blue, ice blue, and water mix to highlight the edges of the Contemptor. I'll put up pictures when I can.

Thank you for all the input, guys!

It's a solid paint job. However, that base and his pose are killing you. It looks like he's out for a stroll. At the bare minimum, I would position the gun like he's aiming at the enemy and I would add some rubble and debris on the base.

Share pictures when you get them all painted, they are a lot of fun to paint!

Yes, I agree... it could use some rubble and such. What would you suggest adding? Anything specific I should look at picking up!

Also, the gun is aimed down like that due to it's tendency to slip off if it's pointed up to high. I might add some green stuff to the inner part of the melta guns thing so it can sit at a nicer angle.

Looks really good! from experience its defo a pain to get the legs in a pose as others have said if you've not glued the melta arm in that position (from your above post iam guessing you've not?) its prob worth doing the aiming thing.

I never bothered to pin mine found that once it was super glued i couldn't pry the damn thing apart when i'd made a mistake lol

Keep up good work!

Hey this looks great. I agree that the base needs a little more to make it look more dynamic.

There is something so classy about the Ultramarine paint scheme done well.

I have positioned the arm a bit better so it can aim at the enemy. Atleast the gun, heh.

Thank you! I plan on adding a few rocks to the base, not sure what else to add yet.

Thanks for all the good replies, guys!
