No replys to this great looking tank?? WTF?

I really like what you built there, mate! The extra plates make it look very ory, and the rust and checks you painted look very good!

Whats the original model?

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

Thanks. I was a bit surprised by the lack of response. Perhaps some felt it was re-post of my first Ork tank build?

The tank chassis is from a $2.29 toy version of a Pz III I found at ToySoldier Depot.com. The Ork turret is from the Ork battlewagon,
with a 3/8' plastic tube extension for the barrel. Cardstock was used for the skirts.

I am pleased how well the rust effect came out. I alternately sprayed it with a "Muddy Brown" spray primer and Black spray. Then edged the corners with vermin brown and dwarf flesh, and dry-brushed vomit brown on the hull and skirts.

$2.29? Thats a sweet deal!

You're the second or third painter I've seen on dakka who does his rust with vomit brown..... I usually mix different browns and reds, and thats very hard to get right.... maybe I should just go and get vomit then....

Keep orkifying cheap tanks, you're good at it!

Love it. I like the use of an inexpensive tank brought to life by a great conversion . The rusted metal looks great and the graphics dont scream "stupid". Nice balance of disturbed and deadly, As Orks should be. "Jobs A Good'un"

That rust effect is some of the best I think I have seen, and it seems so simple to do. Any chance of uploading a high resolution photo to the dakka gallery so I can zoom in and have a closer look?

Thanks, but I think you are confusing Vomit brown for creating the rust color. I used it to create the dried mud/dirt effects, not to simulate rust.

Let me re-cap The rust red spray primer, aka Krylon brand "Muddy Brown" was laid on first to cover the entire model. While wet, I over-sprayed lightly and randomly with a flat black primer. Then again with "Muddy brown" primer over-sprayed lightly again. I went back and forth several times with both spray cans, improvising as I went.

Vermin brown is an excellent color for rust, especially for highlighting the edges. Braver and better painters than me even use bright orange for rust highlights, but I haven't quite mastered that technique yet to my satisfaction to use it much..
