(EDIT: Changing from original list due to incorrect army composition)

Hello all, I've taken a long break from 40k with my new job and other life events popping up. I've finally managed to find some time to get myself back into the swing of things and I'm trying to motivate myself to finish my army. So here is my new concept that has been floating around in my head:

H.Q.
Rune Prest
Chooser, Lightning, Hurricane -110
Bjorn The Fell-Handed -270

Troops
Grey Hunters 10x
2x Melta, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard, Power Weapon, Stormraven Gunship w/ Melta, Assault Can. & Hurricane Bolters, Searchlight - 426

Grey Hunters 5x
Flamer, Las/Plas Razorback -150

Grey Hunters 5x
Flamer, Las/Plas Razorback -150

Elites
Rifleman Dreadnought -125 (Rides in SR)

Rifleman Dreadnought -125 (Rides in SR)

Wolf Gaurd Pack 10x -401
2x TA, CML (Each go with a Long Fang group)
----------------------------------------
3x Standard Wolf Guard w/ Storm Bolters
(One in Storm Raven, others in Las/Plas)
----------------------------------------
TL Assault Cannon Razorback (for the following)
1x TA, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Claw
4x Standard Wolf Guard w/ Storm Bolters

Heavy Support
Long Fangs 5x
4x Missile Launchers,
Leader w/ Flamer -120

Long Fangs 5x
4x Missile Launchers,
Leader w/ Flamer -120

1997

Yes, I know its frowned upon for wolves to have a Stormraven , but it fits my fluff perfectly and these are far from normal wolves.

( I can go into fluff upon request )

I'm thinking this is a pretty solid list, but I'm always looking for input! Thanks in advance, you guys are always helpful!

I don't understand putting rifle dreads in a SR, isn't their concept long range for support? For the fluff you might want to include a standard dread with ass. cannon and Hvy flamer for some close in infantry support. I think this would be like a berserk vet hell bent on exacting as much pain as possible, otherwise it sounds like a fun, if restricted list, but I say go for it. At least it will look good.

I was thinking the same thing about the dreads at first. But after using them for quite some time, the disadvantage always seems to be their mobility and trying to get them to a useful location for LOS. Especially if I am first to deploy, people can easily put everything out of the dreads LOS and it can take several turns for them to get a shot off. With them being transported by skimmers I can quickly move them to the best position (maybe even on a high perch normally not accessible by the dreads) so they can snipe away. What are your thoughts on that?

Sounds like your using far too much (LOS blocking) terrain...
Do you not have any tall buildings, or anything elevated? I can't believe at 2000 points, your opponent can manage to get that much stuff out of LOS of the dreads....
And it shouldn't take several turns, 6" move and run, seriously, if your not getting a shot off turn one or two, I think your either playing with far far too much LOS blocking terrain or are just doing something wrong.

Where I play they like to do city battles alot, granted it isn't an issue everytime, I was just thinking it would be handy to have the ability for that. If nothing else perhaps not starting them in the stormravens, but rather keeping them as its transport for the purpose of being able to swoop in later to transport somewhere.

It's not that Stormravens are frowned on for Space Wolves, they just aren't in the codex? And even if you used Blood Angels rules, they would take up Heavy slots. We can't really critique your list if you aren't following the rules with it.

I guess I'd recommend using the Blood Angels rules with Space Wolves fluff if you're dead set on this. Aside from 60ish points of upgrades, this could easily be a BA list. The Wolf Priest might as well be another Rune Priest, they really are great units.

And the Dreads should be CC equipped, I'd say Melta or Assault cannon, with DCCW and Heavy Flamer. Normally they have trouble getting into assault range, but on the assault vehicle stormraven, that's not a problem.

No they clearly are listed as a Skimmer, Fast in the blood angles rule book. Aside from that, i like the Idea of taking another rune priest, I think I will go forward with that. I'll really consider going CC dreads but my rifleman dreads have saved me many times. They just provide sooo much dakka.

I think you misunderstood, you can only use one codex to build your army. But in any case, you can only have 3 heavy support and you have 5 with the stormravens..

... Stormravens are not listed as heavy support, where are you getting this information from? In the vehicle definition it states Unit Type -Vehicle (Fast, Skimmer) I only have the rule page for the Stormraven itself, it must be listed elsewhere I'm not seeing. (currently looking for the full BA codex)

HQ, Elite, Fast, Troop, Heavy Support are the five sections, Storm Raven has to be in one of them. In BA codex its in the heavy section. GK it is fast, but GK stormraven has an extra GK power. Your looking at unit type, which never says Heavy support/troop/Hq etc....(Says Infantry, MC, Tank etc)

And you can only use Storm Ravens with your SW if your opponents/club allow that. And they will take up a Heavy Support slot each, which slot were you putting them in?

Aha, I see that now. All I had available at the time was the single page listing the facts about the Stormraven. (my friend plays GK and he also told me they were FA so that's where the mix up was) So going forward we need to ditch the predators. Hmm now what to put in their place...

Oooo, I will look into him. In the mean time the changes I made are as follows: 4 wolf guard w/ PF & CM, to ride with each squad. Upgrading the Stormravens with typhoons/ searchlights and giving the Long Fang leader a plasma gun. *Oh and a second Rune Priest to boot!

I dont think you can really play stormravens with SW unless your always playing friends who dont mind house rules. Maybe just adjust points a little bit and put one of them in a land raider and the other in a rhino, the riflemans dont need transports as they are meant to stand back and shoot anyway.

I play for fun with friends at a local club- nothing too serious. They won't have a problem with me running a Stormraven. I've taken into consideration having a nasty close combat dread hellbent on destruction and I'm taking out one of the storm ravens and putting more dakka from a second Longfang squad in its place. Let me know what you guys think of the revisions! (I will edit first post)
