Just seeing what would be good thinking about buying the battleforce and kharn i think that's close to 700. Just whatever you think would be good.

Lesser Daemon of Chaos

How much experience do you have playing the game?

Kharne is a very good, cost-efficient HQ choice for early chaos players. He is a beast in close combat, able to strike first and usually kill most other characters, but beware str 8 attacks from powerfists and the like as he does not have eternal warrior. He is also versatile in the sense that he can assault and destroy vehicles, even land raiders, quite reliably.

Based on the Battleforce, just put Kharne in the rhino and truck him around with those berzerkers and you will be fine.

For additional purchases you may want to look at Obliterators, Predator or a Vindicator to round out your ranged fire support. That should hopefully get you close to 1k.

You can also use the space marines from aobr for your chaos army along with the dred and terminators. But to add onto what you have i would say obliterators and or vindicator for some range punch to your army.

Happy gaming

Don't buy obliterators. Buy green stuff and convert those termies into obliterators. Way cheaper, and will look better to boot. Then you take that green stuff and convert all of those csm and vanilla marines into plague marines. Your life will be good. Invest in powerfists, meltaguns, and rhinos.
Kharn will always have a special place in my heart. I never run him anymore, but he brought me over to Chaos, has done some amazingly insane on the battlefield, and never ceases to entertain when he eviscerates his own dudes. Kharn always hits, and no other unit in 40k can boast that.
Kharn is fun. Play him like the madman he is and he will not let you down. I was playing SW once, and he had drop pod assualted directly behind my two berzerker filled rhinos, one of which had Kharn. They shot the rear armor and managed to wreck one. My turn comes up and all of the berzerkers jump out and move/shoot. When I assault it's Kharn hitting the drop pod, berzerkers hitting the termies. Kharn explodes the thing, 5 inch radius. kills six of 19 berzerkers and 1 terminator. I would do it again a million times over.

You can also just paint the space marines as black legion and run them as standard CSM. I am clueless when it comes to Greenstuff as well, except when it comes to making things uglier than when I started.

For the points it would be better to outfit a Predator instead of using a Vindicator. The CSM Vindicator is more expensive than the SM Vindicator and we don't even get the Ordinance Barrage Demolisher Cannon; we just get the Ordinance Demolisher Cannon. Personally...for 25 points more, I'd put in a Defiler and start dropping some mad AP3 S8 Large Blast death bombs. Not to mention you have 72" with the Battle Cannon...

If Defilers don't strike your fancy I would absolutely recommend using Obliterators instead. IMO...they're probably one of the best, if NOT the best, Heavy Support choice in the game.

Personally I think the CSM battleforce is a waste of money.

All you need for 1000 point CSM is:

Demon Prince

2x5 regular CSM (One box)

Rhino

3 units of 3 Obliterators

Now the oblits are kinda pricey, but they will serve you well from 1000 points all the way up to 3000 points. Alternatively you can get 2 x 3 oblits and a defiler, which also works out well.

This has given me an idea. If Assault on blackreach comes with a bevy of dreadnaught weapons, you can use those to make some of those terminators it comes with into obliterators.

When I was littler, I had a deathwing army, and rending was good. Finding enough Assault cannons was not. But you'd be surprised how many you can make out of some space marine and dreadnaught weapons. Just getting a shoulder over it and chopping down the weapon you want is pretty easy. I imagine you just add a couple more armory looking bits or machine bits to the side of the gun or the bulk of the terminator and it'll looks sufficiently industrial, with it's cumbersome body and arm that turns into a gun.

I think your real task is figuring out what to do with the possessed. They sort of do the same job as your Berzerkers, but at a higher price tag. Generally not included in most armies, but those bits are pretty sweet. Put some thought into it.

You'll want another rhino at least, and if you are really cool and land raider for your zerkers! It'll get you into higher point games that much more quickly and think of all the bitz! (you could use any spikes therein to turn any blackreach marines you have into convincing CSM or nurgle men)

I don't remember any greenstuff being essential for those conversions, just a lot of hacking and gluing. I get where you are coming from though.

The box has a lot of stuff you'll want to figure out an alternate use for though. What were you going for with all this?

Well what did you want your army to look like? What were you hoping to field, or any idea of a feel for the army you want?
Or were you just hoping to jump into an army and looking for a cheap way to start Chaos?

Well if you have the battle force and aobr set, you have two marine and a half marine squads of 10. I would personally take a marine from each of the ten man squads, add him to the 5 man squad and make said squad plague marines. Then, but rhinos and more rhinos for ur troops. Then get a daemon prince and kharn. Put kharn with rhino and dp with wings fly around and attack squads with powerful range attacks. As for the termies, add on some spikes and the occasional heavy weapon and call them oblitz. For the dread, if you must use him, give him a missle launcher and claw or just two claws. That leaves out the chaos lord that comes with the force, and the captain from aobr. Trade these if you can, if not... well, they have dramatic poses.

This is my Leman Russ. There are many out there like it, but this one is mine. Without it, I am useless. Without me, it is useless.

Obliterators: They've got a gun for that.

I never get tired of great Kharn stories

To the OP, I would definitely recommend Obliterators, whether you make them or buy them.
