Hey all!
Long time lurker here, but now ive finally got something worth showing. Ive been painting since January 2011. I have been keeping up with the Warhammer
40k universe for several years though and my brother used to paint and play when i was a kid.
But now my friend encouraged me to start playing
40k, and my choice of army was Blood Angels. So since last year i have been modeling and painting the little red bastards. But i really needed to do something else then painting power armor, because i felt that my skills needed to evolve, so i looked around for a single miniature that i could really sink some time and patience in.
So my choice was the new Nurgle Chaos Lord from
GW because of the extremely awesome Nurglesque feel that he has. Also, i wanted to try out large areas of skin, as i thought that my blending skills would come to the test here, also doing all the gore would be great fun.
So, enough rambling here are the
WIP pics of the Nurgle Chaos Lord
Here is some of the greenstuff work i did to him before priming him. The model itselv had next to nothing clean up on it, but did require some gap filling as shown. But i really really like the way the do them, much better than metal or finecast
And here we have him assembled, greenstuffed and ready for priming
And back from priming, i choose a white primer because i find it easier to work on a white base rather than black. You can always dull down colors if they are to bright, but i ind it hard to brighten things up with a black primer
And heres the shoulder after priming to show of my gap filling abilities. I think it went well
So basecoating. I went with a watered down purple mixed with a dark skin tone. The first layer went on kinda like a wash and really helped to define all the nooks and crannies on his skin, wich would make it easy to pick out the raised areas in the next steps.
Slowly layering purple/skin mix and adding more dark skin for every pass
For the final stage of painting his skin, i added in some yellow to the mix for the most raised bits and especially the boils on his belly and back
Some detail shots of his loincloth and chainmail
And here´s some of the higlighting on the leather, tried to do some old dried skin feel on it. And the metal was just a brush over/heavy drybrush of Boltgun Metal followed by a badab black wash
And here i got carried away with painting and forgetting to take pictures. Most of the gore is done and the wood on his axe was done with a dark brown, and a mix of brown and grey was used to make the woodgrains and the spikes coming out of the hilt. Then finally it was given a wash of Badab Black to tone it all down. I think it went well and looks the part of old dark used wood
So, thats it for now. More to come tomorrow hopefully, and please C and C on this little project of mine, as it is far from the space marine i am used to painting
Cheers!
