So I am currently revamping my empire army from 6th edition to play again. As all the blocks back then were 20 man size I am actively repainting and constructing magnetic movement trays. So the question is dakka what dimensions are best for versitility or empire state troops? 10x5 (50 man hoard/bus) or build up to 10x6 incase? Or are 10x6 (60 hoard) kind of a waste?

It all depends on the person, but I like to run my troops like this:

50 Halberdiers in horde 10x5
30 Flagellents in horde 10x3
40 Greatswords in Horde 10x4
25-30 Greatswords in a bus formation for tarpit/bunker- 5x5
30-40 Swordsmen in a bus formation for tarpit/bunker- 5x8
Shooters deployed in 2 ranks (eg 20 in 10x2)

One thing to remember, on your non unbreakble troops, split the movement trays in two instead of having one solid tray, so if the time arises you can put them 5 wide and deep ranks.

For example, if my 50 Halberdier horde has 40 black orcs aproaching, then I reform them to 5x10 and hold out as long as possible.

I salute you for getting 50 halberdiers to fit together. I could never get my guys to line up

Empire units want to be as large as possable to maximize their ability to be steadfast and keep grinding.
