I'm pretty new to Tau and I'm not looking to make a comp list it's mostly just for casual play. The codex is also a little different from what I'm used to so don't be too hard for me. I just really like the tau and kroot lulz I've also heard that the Tau are hard to play in low point games but I'm going for "fun on a budget"

HQ

Commander Shas'o 118
TL MissilePod, Plasma Rifle, Multi-tracker

Troops
10x Fire Warriors 120
Teamleader, markerlight

18x Kroot 147
Shaper

18x Kroot 147
Shaper

Elites
2x Crisis Suit 136
TL MissilePod, Plasma Rifle, Multi-tracker

668pts

Like i said this is pretty rough so how should i spend the other points? Is this even a good list? Should I get a devilfish? Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Why haven't you used the remaining 82 points on things like more kroot or a crisis team?

92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are one of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your sig.

Is that what I should do with the remaining points? just more kroot and crisis suits?

Shapers are overated. The extra points could be used to buy a hammerhead. also, if you want markerlight support, you might want 'finders.

May the greater good be with you.

Its a good idea unless you would rather use fire warriors. I like fire warriors more but thats my preference. I LOVE MY TAU.

If you are bringing a firewarrior squad that big, best to give them a bonding knife so they can rally even if they are below half strength.

Much better than letting them run off the table.

Tau and Space Wolves since 5th Edition.

Tau are hard to play at any level

If you really want to bring Kroot, I'd suggest 1 squad at the most. They are really not very good, and I'd be hard pressed to find a role for them at 750. Still, in a casual game you should have no problem getting forests on the table, so at least they will get to do something.

At 750 you will really want to focus on bringing as many suits as you can. This is probably going to be 1 squad of 2 Fireknives (plasma rifle, missile pod, multi-tracker), and 1 squad of 2 Burstfires (burst cannon, missile pod, multi-tracker) or 2 Deathrains (TL missile pod, flamer/targeting Array). Plus your HQ. Personally, I'd drop the kroot and bring 1 or 2 6-man Firewarrior mounted in a Devilfish with disruption pod. If you can stick a Broadside in there, you will at least be able to do something against an AV14 vehicle, provided one shows up at this point level.

If you have extra points, make one crisis in each team a Team Lead, make his MT hardwired, and give him a targeting array. This is a relatively inexpensive way to boost the suit's efficiency.

Also, just an FYI, that crisis loadout you have right now is not valid. Crisis suits have 3 hardpoints, and a TL missile pod takes up 2. Only Team Leaders or Shas'vres can bring wargear (like a hard-wired multi-tracker).

Awesome. so drop some or all the kroot and pick up some more firewarriors with a bonding knife in a devilfish. also more suits

I just really like kroot lulz only reason i was gonna use them was to tar-pit some units when infiltrating but kinda bad with no saves :(

@elrabin thanks for the heads up on crisis loadout. just another thing i overlooked. also thanks for the terms used to describe the crisis suits didnt know any of those lulz

anything else? ill try posting a new list soon!

Make the 'o an 'el and give him a Targeting Array instead of TL Missile Pod. It's less points, boost the efficiency of the Plasma Rifle, and only slightly drops the accuracy of the missile pod.

I would drop the 'ui and bonding knife from the Firewarrior squads. These make sense if you are running 12 Firewarriors and keeping them on the ground, but if they are going to spend most of their life in a vehicle there's no worry about them taking casualties. Also, don't forget to use Disruption Pods on all your vehicles! This is a must-take item for Tau.

Break up those suits into individual units. This will let you split fire as you need it, and should make it easier to get your suits out of LOS or behind cover. Without markerlights, there's no reason to run them in one large unit.

Bring an Advanced Stab. System on the Broadside. The extra mobility can sometimes be enough to deny a cover save. Or give you an extra turn before being assaulted.

With those changes, by my calculations you would have 97 points remaining. That's enough for two Deathrains (TL MP, Flamer) at 94pts. So the final list would be:

HQ: 'el with MP, PR, TA, HWMT [97]

TROOPS:
6x Firewarriors [145]
Devilfish + DP

6x Firewarriors [145]
Devilfish + DP

ELITES:
1x Fireknife [62]

2x Fireknife [124]

2x Deathrain [94]

HEAVY:
1x Broadside w/ A.S.S. [80]
