Subject: Custom C'tan: He'setack the Oppressor

I have recently been working on a custom C'tan for my Necron army. I wasn't overly thrilled with the deceiver or the night bringer for some reason (loved them the first time I collected Necrons in the old ed, not so much since the new codex landed). I have usually found fluff to be a great motivator in my conversions to help me stay motivated and focused and to give a theme to the concept. As such below is a work in progress picture of my C'tan He'Setack the Oppressor and a brief overview of his fluff.
When the C'tan came with their honeyed promises to the Necron race they came in many different forms, the Deceiver brought his promises and deceptions, lulling those beneath his sway into a sense of security through misdirection and guile. The Nightbringer brought with his weapons of mass destruction, the sheer awe of his destructive power luring in those who's hearts had been darkened by the constant struggle. But the Oppressor knew is prey well, he knew their thirst for power was stronger than their guile, stronger than their desire to just win the war. Destruction of their foes alone would never sate the Necrontyr, only complete domination of the galaxy would heal their broken hearts. And thus he descended, offering power absolute to the lords and lulling the masses into mindless thralls long before they entered their living metal shells. The lords of his dynasties found worlds on bended knee before even a single gauss blast had been fired. Some say that when the bio furnaces first ignited it was The Oppressors followers who turned the voluntary system into one of absolution, that no man, woman or child should be spared the conversion. Their ghost arks haunting the streets of every world under their sway until not a whisper remained.
The Shards of the Oppressor are often adorned in armour, not serving any protective function but as a symbol of a warrior, a lord and king. A regal headdress over his head a mocking reminder of his desire to rule absolute.
The model is very WIP I think it's shaping upto my theme pretty well.

looking pretty good so far, but it still looks too much like the deciever, i think it's the robes. maybe if you made them into a cloak or something?

You're dead on there, as much as I love how he's shaping up he is still undeniably the deciever (minus the odd head spikes). When this layer of GS dries I will be fashioning him an egyptian false beard to remove the very painted features on his chin to differentiate the face a little more. It may take combining the strands (bandages?) that float around the deciever into one overly large cloak to change the body up but I;m not altogether thrilled with my ability to GS cloaks atm.

I think he will look better when you add the beard but he looks better than my green stuff I try.

cheers, I know its not perfect atm, I had been debating on how to make a breastplate for a while and this was the first model to take the plunge, still not entirely certain I got it right but finding a decent image to work off of on google that wasnt an entire torso suit was a royal pain and in the end it came down to guess work.

This is some great greenstuff work; the armor turned out really well. If I were you I might change the pointing arm so it's a tad less reminiscent of the Deceiver, but I'm not exactly sure how. Overall this is a very well done mini.

hrmm, depending on the brittleness of the model I should be able to detatch that army when he is fully set if that could give him a more unique vibe, one thing I had been toying with was a shield army, if I cut the arm at the elbow, and reposition across his chest I may be able to give him some kind of shield in that arm in a true warriorish pose.

WIP Update number 2, day 2 has resulted in cleaning up some of the original green stuff and giving him a Pharaoh style beard, I've also started to reposition the right arm in order to attach a shield and give him a more warrior esque pose.
Currently I have ravener armour plates on order to make a rough shield out of which will be edited into a less natural and more metallic construct. The current goop on his right hand will be the strap handle to the shield once attached.

that's more like it! with the shield on, i think you might not even have to fill in the robes (though that would look really cool) to make him look less like the deceiver.
i love it, and would kill to be able to sculpt armour like that
