Hi all,

This is my first post here so please be gentle, I was wondering regarding a Citadel Finecast model that I purchased recently. I noticed that compared to plastic model kits, for example, the DA vets, there's a more rough and ready apperance to it, it's not as "Clean" if that makes sense. There's an almost matte texture to the model and in places my brush has went into holes in the resin. Is this normal or do I just have a lemon? I'm kinda concerned that if this is the level of normalcy with this series of models, I'm going to go down the homebrew route rather than actually buying them.

So I dunno if that's a stupid question or one that's been asked but I'd love an answer to it.

Cheers.

With finecast you can bypass the washing stage and throw them straight into the bin.

Or cut out the middleman and just flush some money down the toilet.

no, your model is fairly standard. the resin is quite porous, so absorbs paint/glue really well, making it all stick very well. though you really should be priming your minis as it sounds like you aren't

You can expect a few bubbles in the resin (holes). They should generally be easy to fill (after washing the miniature, before priming) by painting on a little liquid greenstuff, waiting a few minutes then brushing it with a moist, soft brush to smooth it off. Bubbles in detail can be difficult to fix, and may require some sculpting skill.

You can also expect more flash than on plastic (the thin membrane-like stuff). This again should come off easily.

There's a grey area between what you can expect on a resin model, and what's not acceptable in a premium product; it really is difficult to make a call or state an opinion without seeing pictures.

Without a picture I can't be 100% on this but it sounds like some extra flash on the model, if not it may be excess resin and that would be a result of a bad mold. As for the holes those would most likely be air bubbles that are a result of GW not doing a good job with the Finecast models.

Personally I haven't had any problems with finecast, but several people I know have and seeral on dakka as well. It sounds like a lemon unfortunately finecast is a lemon orchard. What you can do is send GW pics of the problems and request a replacement, but keep in mind that I am telling you this without seeing it myself.

Wow not one, not two, but

I hate new resin models, but I play IG and don't use any in my List.
