Hello Dakka!

Our next 40k throwdown is coming up in about two weeks on Saturday, March 10! The last tournament was a lot of fun and went off without any major hitch, and we'll be doing it again for everyone out there who isn't totally burned on 40k after Broadside Bash and Bay Area Open. I'll also be able to take signups and give out info for the Warhammer Masters Series for 40k, which if you haven't heard about, you can find right here on dakka:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/431799.page

You can check out pictures from our last event on our store's facebook page, here:

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.317839208261727.71654.106899122689071&type=3

We'll be doing another round of the same 'Ard Boyz-style, battle points-only, and I'll again be breaking up the prize pool differently, so it's not strictly winner takes all (though the winner will still take most, as they should!)

Points level is back to 1850 for this event; BAO will be behind us by the time this one rolls around so we're jumping back up to a points level I'm happier with.

Sportsmanship will be scored separately for purposes of the Sportsmanship award. I'm going to have a simple one-warning system for questionable behavior. If a played has a legitimate complaint levied against them for unsportsmanlike play, they'll be notated as such, and any subsequent legitimate complaints will result in the player in question being asked to leave the event.

Scenarios will again be "from the book" with some minor special rules here and there to spice things up. We will be using an 'Ard Boyz style Massacre-Major-Minor-Draw scoring setup. Don't worry though.. there won't be anything silly like Victory Points! Tiebreakers will be scenario bonus points first, followed by strength of schedule, followed by Kill Points earned during the event.

There are some basic requirements for armies. Armies must be comprised of GW models, must be comprised of a majority of models from the relevant codex, and fully assembled with all primary wargear represented on the model. WYSIWYG is the rule. I will make exceptions for conversion and 'counts-as' work if notified in advance, so I can take a look at the models in question and decide whether to allow them or not. If you're not sure about something, please let me know beforehand. You can contact me at the store, information below. The Rule of Awesomeness applies here, which is, of course, the more awesome (Jawsome?) your model is, the less likely I or your opponents are going to complain about it, so convert and counts-as competently, please!

I will be keeping strict watch of the round times during the event, and I will be walking around the tables during games to help keep people on track. Games that do not go for a minimum of four full turns will not be scored and count as a loss for both players.

The top place goes to the best Battle Points, who will take home the championship trophy and the lion's share of the prize support. The player with the highest Sportsmanship total takes home the sportsmanship prize, and the player with the best painting score takes home the painting prize. There is always at least $150 in GW product up for grabs as guaranteed prize support, with additional store credit prizes depending on attendance, and the ever popular random door prizes.

For the tournament there is a $10 entry (or $20 purchase) to play. The doors will be open early for players to come in and get set up. As usual, I want to kick this one off as close to 10:00am as possible so we don't go too long. The last one wrapped at about 6:30.

The schedule will stick as closely as possible to the following:

8:30ish - 9:30 - Show up early, have donuts with Travis (B&C donuts on Alta Dena and Foothill is particularly good for those of you in a generous mood! ), talk shop, lament the sad lack of a new Tau codex/the newest FAQ nonsense/6th ed rumors
9:30am - 10:00 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:00am - 12:15pm - Round 1
12:15 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:45 - Round 2
4:00 - 6:15 - Round 3
6:30 - Winners announced

It all goes down at Game Empire Pasadena:

1795 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena, CA. 91106
626-304-9333
http://www.gameempirepasadena.com

Make sure you note the new address!

Please let me know here or on the tournament thread on the Game Empire forums if you're planning on attending so I can get a rough idea what to expect. You can RSVP on Game Empire's facebook as well. If you RSVP on facebook, I'll give you a free candy and soda during the event! (Just remember to ask me about it, because I will totally forget/not know that you RSVP'd by the time we're halfway through the tournament!)

If you have any comments or questions, let me know here or give a call to the store, and hopefully I'll see you there!

Not sure if I will make this one since it is right after the BAO. We'll see how wiped out myself and/or the Mrs is.

40k terrain made of the Berlin wall would be hard core.

Well after 10 games and a move it looks like I will be headed here.

I do not want to drive for 3 hours and play the same format in Temecula for 4 games.

Blasto I am pretty sure your beautiful orks, can you really call orks beautiful(?), will do well in the painting prize category!

Not sure how prize support is working for this one so I'll let Dis field that part of your question but there is a painting prize and it is normally prize support (don't know how much), not a trophy.

I am working on getting trophies, unfortunately the last four weeks have been super busy and all my free time that would normally be taken up with doing all the extra work I would normally do for the store has been taken up with getting ready for and going to tournaments.

That being said, I'm going to do my damndest to whip up some trophies for the event, but regardless of all that there will be the usual spate of product prize support and the accolades of all.

Since no one has been able to unseat Andy from the top spot, I'm sure that if I do manage to get trophies made up, this will be the first event of 2012 that he will lose.

Crap. Now I *have* to make a cool trophy. If it was just someone random who won, it might not matter... but if you're going to be the one to steal the thunder... Now I can start thinking about how to incorporate the Street Sharks into the design.

Round one is underway now. Twenty players total.

The army breakdown is as follows:

Dark Eldar x3
Blood Angels x5
Dark Angels x2
Eldar
Grey Knights x3
Space Marines x2
Chaos Space Marines
Necrons
Imperial Guard
Black Templars

Lotta power armor out there today. Still no bugs, no Space Wolves (!?), and no Orks!? Makes my green heart sad; Grimgob, what happened man?. If I could ever play in one of these, I'd bring the boyz, you betcha!

Round one Pairings:

DE vs. GK
BA vs. SM
BA vs. DE
GK vs. BA
SM vs. BT
CSM vs. BA
DE vs. DA
DA vs. GK
BA vs. Necrons
IG vs. Eldar

First mission is a multi, combines Seize and C&C; players earn VPs for claiming objectives as a primary, with other VPs and scenario bonus points for killing the enemy's mens. Stay tuned, more to come!

If it makes any ork player feel any better, I had to proxy some killa-kans as Wraithlords and the Kans, I mean Wraithlords, won me every game =). Gork would have been proud of the little S10 T8 critters!
