Subject: Rules question: Assaulting from a CC Barge
|

Rule dispute came up today playing at the club.
Here’s how it went down:
-My Warscythe Overlord in a CC Barge Sweep Attacks a Land Raider (causing a Wrecked result. had softened it up with a Harp beforehand). Occupants disembark.
-Barge promptly stops just on the other side. Overlord disembarks.
-Barge shoots squad of Marines.
-Overlord assaults remaining Marines (unit is decimated).
My opponent argued the rules stated that if an independent character disembarks from a vehicle that moved in the movement phase, said character can not assault in the assault phase.
Now, I know I’d seen the very tactic I pulled of posted before (that’s where I got the idea from, after all), and sure enough, after a quick search I found this,
"Q: Can a character on a Catacomb Command Barge
target one unit with his Sweep Attack and charge a
different unit in the subsequent Assault phase? (p52)
A: Yes."
... but I couldn't help wonder about it.
Is he really incorrect?
Or has the old “Sweep-Shoot-Slash” Surfboard Lord combo been kinda illegal this whole time?

He'd be correct if the CCB wasn't open topped.
But it is, so he's wrong.
He can do the same thing out of his Land Raider because it has assault ramps.

Thank you, sir.
(I knew I was missing something simple).
I shall rub that Dark Angel loving bastard's nose in this information.

Yup, opened topped means you can disembark then assault. Perfectly legal move as far as I can tell.

Yep, there are also no specific IC related rules that would restrict the IC from assaulting. Your opponent was simply wrong.
However you dont sweep attack then finish moving - you move, then sweep attack a unit you moved over. This makes a difference where you end up not wrecking the land raider, and want to be out of assault range....

You are correct in that you may assault with it being opened topped. Unless the ccb went flat out.
