My brother nick and I got in our first game this evening at flgs Red Castle in Portland. Neitehr of us are super familiar with the rules, and the ipad we were referencing died half way through the game, but we still had a great time!

ARMY CODE: Army Infinity v.3.0.

Our lists were mostly based on models we liked, with little concern for function.

Deployment: We sat up the board using dense, brick fantasy buildings that the game shop had in great supply. we were careful to restrict fire lanes and tried to create the kind of back alleys found in a small town. I deployed first, setting my sniper up on a low rooftop on the North side of the board. My engineer was placed in the building underneath her, out of sight. On the South side my Yoagat Lt led 2 Yoagat (Boarding shotgun and combi rifle) up the flank toward a large empty building. My Yaogat with the Spitfire hung back in the middle of my side of the board, ready to go either way, and my Morat lurked in the back, ready to give out her order.

First turn: Nick held his Garuda back for deepstriking later. His Daikini marched up from the south toward that large empty building. The Daikini with the HMG tried to run up the middle but was cut down by my sniper. The Asura Lt, Deva and Naga inched forward, hugging cover.

My half of the turn saw my Lt and boarding shotgun Yaogat cut down by ARO fire from the Daikinj bots. The Zerat Sniper and Kurgat took out the Deva. I had the North side of the board locked down, but Nick's bots were eating my Yaogot on the South side!

Turn two: Nick's Garuda shot down two Yaogat, but his Naga died to my sniper's ARO. On my half of the turn My Kurgat killed His Asura Lt, and my Morat managed to take out the Garuda by sneaking up behind it and blasting it in the back!

Turn three: Nick's last Daikini tried to shoot down the Kurgat, but died to ARO Mk12 fire. Game over with 3 Morat models still on the board!

We were bother pretty surprised by how quick the game went and how deadly even run of the mill guns were. Let me say that again: This isn't like 40K where lasgun or boltgun fire is negligible. A combi rifle or boarding shotgun will ruin you!

I had thought that I'd be through after loosing my Lt so early, but he Morat special rule really saved my day. Nick's troops died to soon for us to really see what loosing a Lt would normally look like.

I really, really enjoyed having my models sneak around corners, peak through windows and dart from door to door. Even though the game was short there was a lot of careful, cautious movement, which was really pretty fun!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to digging back into the rules, seeing what we missed and trying again!

heh welocme to the most tactical game you will ever play and glad you had a great time

Even though I typically recommend keeping starting games to very simple units, you guys had a great mix of units in there. Keep at it and things will click left and right for you guys on tactics to counter each other. Just remember though that you guys are starting out the game with VERY complicated units, so if you feel overwhelmed at all drop down to just basic troops till you get the core mechanics down.

Yeah, we decided to basiclly igonore any special abilities or equipment taht we couldn't find an explanation for in less than a minute. So this included Camo, special ammo, hacking, dogged, remote presence, Nonopulsar, mines and D charges. We knew what linked and Infiltration did, but couldn't find the specific rules so left them out as well. We'll try some of this stuff next time.

That's my favorite thing about Infinity indeed. Everything is lethal.

Glad you had fun.

Things you should note:
- The AD Garuda does not need to be announced during deployment. Unless your opponent is amazing at memorizing point costs, the Garuda should have been a complete surprise.
- One thing people oftentimes not realize is that models can perform something called "Cautious Movement". It seems that a lot of your models are dying in ARO.
- It's difficult to 'sneak up' behind any model. If you spend an order within 8" of an enemy model, it can take an ARO to change facing.
- When you've taken a percentage of casualties (usually 60%), your army would be in Retreat. Morats don't have this problem, but Aleph should.

- We knew this one, but since we're both really familiar with each others models it just wasn't a surprise. I'm looking forward to when we both have a larger selection and predicting exactly what I'll be facing will become a challenge.

- I kept thinking there must be something like that!

- In that case at least once we missed giving a model an ARO. The sneak up with my Morat in turn 2 involved the model coming around a building and firing from about 12 inches away. So not really a sneak up at all, just taking advantage of a blind spot.

-Yeah, I was going to bring this up on turn 3 (since i had just spotted it when I was looking up the Morat rule), but then all of the sudden the game was over!

A small perk, Dakini never turn impetuous thanks to Remote Presence thus don't worry about the retreat rule.

Ghost: Remote presence does NOT allow ignoring the "retreat" threshold or rules.

It means you don't ever have to make "guts" checks for passed armour saves (as it grants Valor: Courage). Only RELIGIOUS allows them to ignore retreat (and they keep their own orders then, like irregulars).

Morats have this rule. NO aleph unit does.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I was 100% sure that remote presence models could never be impetuous, and now I can't find it anywhere...

Hmm. G: Servant includes the following line: "Servant Remotes are Not Impetuous figures, so they cannot be activated with Impetuous Orders." and G: Synchronised includes this line: "If the Controller is Impetuous, then the synchronized creature (Or creatures, but never Remotes) will be as well", but I can't find anything that excludes regular remote presence models.

G: Servant and G: Synchronized are rather special cases where the remote is pretty much attached to another model on the table.
