A friend of mine is planning to load some Lootaz into an open-topped Battle Wagon to use it as an ork firebase. My kneejerk reaction was to say that Heavy Weapons can't fire out of a vehicle, because I've NEVER seen it in 2+ years of play. But upon reading the rules there is absolutely nothing which says this. The only relevant rule I have found simply states that embarked units count as moving if the vehicle moves - which means the BW cannot move and have them shoot. . .

Question is, if the wagon remains stationary can they shoot?

"Better have one flexible neck to be making that shot," Bob said.

"You only assume the Balefire is coming out of his mouth, Bob. In my world, the Heldrake is pooping daemonic fire on your troops as it jets away from their mangled and now burning corpses." -John

There is no restriction on the type of weapons that can be fired from a vehicle's fire points, beyond the normal movement restrictions.

Yes, they can shoot.

I've used them like this before, in a very shooty battlewagon (to maximise the use for a non-moving BW).

Downside is that if the BW takes a hit they can't shoot (shaken, stunned..)

Add in a KFF mek, and the chances of this drop markedly, and let you repair your BW too.

That said it's not that effective, as that BW will have a huge glowing 'KILL ME' sign above it

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
