Hello --

I'm thinking about starting a second army, and I've decided on Vanilla Marines. I'm trying to put together a list I'm happy with before I commit to buying anything. I'm currently a Tau player, so I'm really only used to seeing a Space Marine list on the other side of the table. I am not necessarily attached to anything in this list, but overall I would prefer a shooty list that is somewhat mechanized.

Since I seem to play against a lot of BA, I was going for a lot of AP1/2 for denying FNP. The Null Zone helps to make it easier to take down SS Terminators, though it naturally will help against other units as well. Overall I tried to stuff in as many Lascannons as I could (while trying keep an acceptable volume of fire) to take advantage of Null Zone, and alternatively for popping vehicles. There's a lot of things I'm simply unsure about:

1. Predators or Vindicators? Someone suggested a Dev squad, but I'm not terribly convinced.

2. Gate of Infinity on the Librarian. I'm not really sure how much I'll actually use this, considering he should be living in the LR for at least a couple turns. What other abilities are preferable? Avenger?

3. Dreadnought build. It's fairly expensive, but I'm not sure how effective it will be. Are 2x TL Autocannons sufficient? Is the Lascannon a waste of points?

4. Terminators+LR. This is incredibly expensive, and it would really serve either as a counter-assault unit, for finishing off weakened units, etc. I really don't know how effective this unit would be, but I'm struggling to figure out how I should replace it.

Avenger is a good power gate is nice if your landraider gets imobalized or wrecked (which willhappen plenty of times in 2k games. I'm not a huge fan of CC scouts so i'd probably change them to snipers with a ML, drop the storm give them camo cloaks and use the extra points to give the libby terminator armour.

If your looking for ap1/2 weapons, then I would give the librarian smite instead of null zone.
Vindicators are plain and simply better than predators in this case due to the large blast and the fact that blood angels will get close enough to shoot. them.
I would go for a land raider redeemer over a normal land raider, as you have enough anti-tank as it is.
The terminators are a good counter attack unit, ecspecially when mounted in a land raider of some kind.
I also agree that close combat scout squads are not that good.

The most important point though. Plasma cannon's are the best weapon for fighting space marines full stop. They ignore the feel no pain, no armour saves and 2+ to wound.
A devastator squad or two full of them wipes out most blobs of marines, namely large assault marine units.
