So I'm getting in the beginnings of my Dwarf army very soon and I still don't have any idea how I want to paint them! I want something different, but something that still says "Dwarf" when you see them. Of course blue and bronze look good, but there are just SO MANY OUT THERE. I've went through literally hundreds of pictures and I really can't settle on anything. Please help! Thanks! -MalkierGaidin

Pages 76 and 77 of the Dwarf army book are quite good to give some ideas.

Dwarfs tend to have very earthy colors offset by bright metallics and bold beard colors.
My own personal favorite is Karak Kadrin's colors from page 77, that red goes great with greens and browns.

I've always, personally, found that the army books are a good starting point. If the colors they have don't appeal to you--then you can always go wild and come up with your own background and colors.

The one i use (and make sense in my fluff) is a very dark silver (black undercoat, silver basecoat, blackwashs until you got the tone you want) for metals, green for fabric and brown for later, with red rubys here and there...

My dwarf clan used to be very powerfull and rich, and lived in a mountain full of emeralds and gold (emerald hammers) until they lost a big war against orkz, who made them flee that garrisons. They found the new home in deeper tunels, not very rich in valuable metals, but full enough of iron and adamant. Now they plan to retake their old home, with armors forged in adamant and the best weapons they could forge, and wear green clothes for to honour the old name of the clan, now renamed as "Hammers of Revenge".

So, maybe you could do another regiment of the Hammers of Revenge

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...

Those colors sound very cool. Very nice back story as well. I will definitely take that into consideration! Thanks!

Even when painting D&D dwarves, I've always seen them in a medium Olive-ish green and a maroon-ish red or brown. Can't say why, just always have.

So as of right now I'm thinking a dark olive type green for the outer garb, a deep maroonish brown for leathers and trim. Probably go with a dark weathered type chainmail (Chainmail with a wash of badab black with some lighter highlights maybe) and for the weapons: boltgun metal with a darker wash, maybe some battle damage or weathering here and there and an aged bronze looking color for the details. For hammers I may do my best to make them look more like stone with bronze inlays than metal, but I'm really just brainstorming ideas still and this stage. Thank you to everyone who's commented so far, any and all suggestions, advice, and comments are still welcome and wanted. Once I get them in a get started, I'll post some pics up on my P&M blog. (I only have one so if you wanna check it out it won't be hard to find.) Thanks! --MalkierGaidin

Very nice! I especially like the wood grain on the axe handle. That is the green I'm going to go for almost to a tee.
