I was going to put this in painting and modelling but I don't have any real models to show, so I wanted to avoid getting people upset about that fact.

Anyways, I had recently just finished painting another squad of cadian guardsmen, when something struck me for at least the 10th time. I don't like my color scheme anymore. It happens every time. I get excited about a new color scheme and get right to work. After about two squads of guardsmen, I get tired of the way they look I suppose. But throughout my long guard career I have changed the way my cadians look time and time again.

Is there anyone else who just cannot get their models the way they want them to look? Or am I the only one who can't get his act together?

I'm having trouble settling on a color scheme for my Tau. Initially I had the same problem when I did my Space Marines, but not for the same reasons. I picked Imperial Fists, but found it too hard to paint. (Yellow is really hard.) So then I picked White Scars. (Guess what the second hardest color to paint is?) Finally I settled on Salamanders. I think the green looks really good, but that's just me.

I've had that when I started repainting my Eldar. But I looked up an online paint scheme thingy (the blank ones you fill in by clicking colours) and played around with it until I found a nice paint scheme. Painted a pilot guardian and now I'm happy with it! I would try looking for an online paint scheme program, or look up pictures of guardsmen for inspiration.

LoneLictor on thread about an ork choking the Emperor:

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

Go to coolmini, find a scheme you like and do it up.

Be sure you're in love with it before you start however.

I have a similar issue sometimes: I decide for a scheme, enjoy painting it for a while, but at some point I start looking through blogs, WD issues, or the dakka gallery, and another scheme grabs my attention so I suddenly want to paint that one.

So basically it isn't that I was bored with the first scheme, but I get hooked on another one. I mostly do continue to paint the initial scheme, I just allow myself to do a one-off miniature in a different one from time to time.

Okay, now upon rereading that for spell-check, I realise I could easily rephrase that a bit:

I have a similar issue sometimes: I decide for a girl, enjoy spending time with her a while, but at some point I start looking through the web, a nightclub, or just somewhere on the street, and another girl grabs my attention so I suddenly want to spend time with that one.

So basically it isn't that I was bored with the first girl, but I get hooked on another one. I mostly do continue to spend time with the first girl, I just allow myself to have a one-off evening with a different girl from time to time.

Okay, so this second part isn't really true, I just realised it was funny.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

I pick a scheme I like and then become an ostrich. I purposely do everything I can to ignore other paint schemes (stop looking, delete or move pictures to archive) until I'm about 3/4 of the way done with my army and by that time even if I find another paint scheme I like, it's 'too late' to worry about it now. Maybe the next army will get that new paint scheme.
