I was trying out a new tactic with my Eldar. Its was the "tank shock in the star engine phase" tactic. Keep in mind when this was played the FAQ was not out on it yet....so it was semi legal I guess. Hope you guys enjoy it!!

No surprise, draw mission gets a draw lol. I think you practically gave him the game though by changing your strategy part way through the match. Instead of going super aggressive then backing off don't you think it would have been better to continue pushing forward? Your dire avengers prob would have won in assault against all his units, even the hounds.

But both armies were really nicely painted. The lists seem pretty solid, though there are a few things I don't like about the tau list. For instance an 8 man path finder squad, and 13 kroot seems like a pretty random number. Also I just personally do not take HH, Broadsides all the way lol An I am a little curious about the death rain suits? Ive never liked death rain as flamer templates require you to get way to close and aren't good for doing much damage. I would take burst cannons over them any day, great volume of fire, can be effective against horde, light armor, and marines, and you get to keep a bigger distance.
Nice rep as always though!

I will...never be a memory

Another cool report. It's been nice to see the progression of your Eldar army and it looks fantastic. Looks like infantry and canopies are only left.

A couple of points about the game.

1.In DoW, check out the example of set up in the rulebook. You can't place two tanks with two troop choices inside them. However, what you could have done is place the two tanks and stick you DA in Reserve. On foot, they would have gotten to your own objective and likely out of LOS so you could hold your objective. Also, every single model you have in the army minus the Dire Avengers is expendable in this mission; send your empty DA Wave Serpents forward. If any survive, they can contest your opponent's objective late game.

2. Tank shocks and rams do work against Tau. However, you have to keep at it. Broadsides don't have a great leadership and are very dangerous to any mech army. A lot of folks forget this, but skimmers do not get their dodge roll when rammed by another skimmer. When you lost your Fire Dragons early (great target priority by the Tau player), you had to get rid of those S10 guns first (I know it's only S8 vs WS, but they are AP1). When you look at a Tank Shock tactic, the object is to make your opponent roll it over and over until he fails. Also, it can work if you run down the flanks and then come across the table trying to cause as many Tank Shocks as possible per tank. With a 24 inch move, this can go through several units.

As always, cool report and enjoyed watching it.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Cool battle report as always man! One thing of note, I think you were playing Dawn of War? Maybe not, but if was DOW, you can only start 2 troops and 1 HQ on the board. Remember that the Wave Serpeant counts as a seperate troop choice for the purposes of DOW, so can only field 1 DA squad with WS and Autarch not 2 squads and transports. Otherwise good game, always enjoy. I too have tried the tank shock and I did have a game against IG that worked GREAT and since then, has been sort of MEH. Cheers.

Hey guys thanks for the comments. I wasn't aware of the DoW deployment. I was under the impression the transport counted with the unit. Thank you for clearing that up!

Yeah the aggressive style play just isnt my thing. I have been playing a lot of games and every time I'm aggressive, I just cant hold out. However, I have been playing a lot smarter and playing the shoot and chase game and its been working really well for me.

Glad you guys enjoyed it!!

He Bad_Sheep I think with your army list, I agree that being agressive will likely not work as the # of troops you have in each squad is small and easy to finish off. If tank shock does not work for you, I would not use it. I will tell you in a game I had this weekend. Two of my darn fire prisms got their cannons shot off, so for the remainder of the game, I sent them off ramming things and you know what, they did more than what the one with a gun did the whole game. I took out a vendetta, a weapon on a vendetta, a weapon on a Devil Dog and stunned it. The cool thing is the hit back they have to roll 2 d6 (if you have holo-fields) so they are less likely to kill you. Though this did happen eventually, it did take out a lot of stuff with it. Us Eldar with our hihgh point cost we have to use everything we have in many rolls on the board.
I think if you form a V with a couple tanks and pop out a squad of fire dragons and a squad of Dire Avengers, they can pop a transport and hopefully kill the guys inside and still give themselves cover from the tanks. For marines and 5 dire avengers this is likely not going to whipe them out, but IG, Eldar, Tau it has a good chance of working.
Cheers and keep up the good reports.

Hey man thats awesome about your Prisms!! I have been known to ram a ton with my prisms once they get blown out of the water too. Ramming does work, I just cant use it as my main tactic. Not against Dark Eldar...thats a different story =)
