I was thinking earlier that it since the Iron Warriors are master at siege warfare, it would only make since that they would have some sort of giant super-tank to blow through massive defences. I thought it would be a cool idea to convert/build one for my CSM. Does anyone have any ideas on what it would look like? Should I construct it out of foamboard or something? I thought about converting a BaneBlade...until I saw the price. I might put up some pictures of concept art later, any ideas will be considered!

Well you've always got the option of taking an imperial guard tank like say for instance a shadowsword and dumping a bunch of laundry on it... I mean converting it into a chaos tank...

It's up to you and how much time/money you want to put into it.

The baneblade and shadowsword really aren't that bad price wise and some folks have done great jobs chaosing them up.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-search.jsp?dq=chaos+baneblade

Some people have done great jobs on deamon engines like the tower of skulls and plague tower

http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-search.jsp?dq=daemon+engine&paintjoblow=0&paintjobhigh=10&coolnesslow=0&coolnesshigh=10&auction=0&skip=90&ll=3&s=tb&sort1=7&sort2=0

And then there are just some amazing superheavies out there

http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-search.jsp?dq=superheavy&paintjoblow=0&paintjobhigh=10&coolnesslow=0&coolnesshigh=10&auction=0&skip=90&ll=3&s=tb&sort1=3&sort2=0

So my point is it can be done cheaply if you put in a lot of time and there's lots of folks here who can help you once you have some concepts to share.

Make a Perturabo Storm Tank (Its fan fluff, but still pretty cool) or a larger version if you're wanting something like a baneblade.

You could always do the "Amazing" siege engine they describe in the "Fallen Angels" book in the Horus Heresy books?

I think it's Perturabo that Lion El'Jonson gave it to from the end of the book...I am a bit too half cut right now to remember ..

Money is apparently a big consideration for you, otherwise a baneblade would be the obvious conversion base. (I won't even mention Forgeworld )

I don't recommend foamboard, it will almost certainly just look like foamboard...
Your obvious options are:
- look for a cheap second-hand baneblade (but be careful, many of the crappy ones are appallingly glued together and could be impossible to fix)
- start with a non-GW tank toy or kitset of the appropriate size, preferably polystyrene (some other plastics are a pain to glue), then add heaps of detail to make it look more 40Kish
- or start from scratch with a bucketload of plasticard and bits.

This will not be an easy project :(

Also.

for a Baneblade stand-in thats cheap if your not pciky about conversion.
There is a 1/35h scale Maus (German 188 ton Super Heavy) out there for $30 last i saw. i have 2. 1 assembled and based awaiting paint and another still in its box thats probly gonna turn into a Stormblade or something in the future.

There are templates floating around the interweb that could show you how to build your own Baneblade. Since you'd be converting anyway, you could build the basic structure from those, then add your modifications to uniquely "skin" the model. Considering the work you might need to put in modifying the stock model, if you bought it, you may not spend all that much more time or effort going about it this way - you certainly won't spend as much money, at least.
