So I'm going to be starting up a Tyranid army since the Tervigon is finally out. I wanted to do it in the Hive Behemoth Color scheme. I was looking around for ways to do it, but the best tutorial (awesome paint job) was too bright when compared to the GW pictures. Does anyone have the GW steps or know how to get a similar effect like the GW Behemoth color scheme?

Thanks!

Also here were my thoughts on how to paint Behemoth.

Prime Black
Paint Skin with Mechrite Red
Paint Skin Gory Red
Use badab black wash
Paint over with Gory Red/ Blood Red 1:1 mix
Light Highlight of Blood Red

After that I'm not too sure. Any suggestions would be helpful!

That's actually pretty similar to how I paint it, except I use Devlan Mud instead of Badab Black (I think red shades better towards brown than black).

I also add a very light blazing orange highlight, and finish off with a Baal Red glaze. But you could skip the orange if you want a darker shade.

There is an extensive Behemoth painting guide in the latest issue of White Dwarf. Now that Tervigon n Tyrannofex is finally out I also might be starting nids.

I'm going to have to pick up that issue of WD then since the GW tutorials are down from the website.

Glad to know I'm on the right track. Does the WD article show how to paint the sacs for the Tervigon as well?

Also how would I go about painting the armoured parts? I know its black base coat, but do I stipple the aqua color onto the shell at that point?

The tutorial is a comprehensive guide about painting the new Tervigon kit, sacs included.

The carapace is feathering around the rim Black/Turquoise > Turquoise > Turquoise/Fortress Grey > Fortress Grey

I heard WD painting guides are not the best so try find some you tube painting guides instead.

Another suggestion. For anything that is mostly red, I like to prime a dark brown. It's not as harsh as black and the brown primer coat complements any red layers that are painted over it.

Thanks! That's really helpful actually! I might still look at it when I can drop by FLGS and see if its worth it.

Well they usually aren't from what I've seen, but neither were the GW painting articles on the website. I just use them as a loose guide to get something that looks similar to what GW produces.

I never would have thought Brown Primer existed. It sounds like it should work though! I'd give it a shot if I didn't have cans of black lying around.

I use the Rustoleum and Krylon brands of camouflage paints. You can get Brown, Dark Green, Army Green, and Khaki. They have worked out pretty well for me and are easy to find.

I just (re)started a behemoth army as well, and I figured out a way to make them look fairly decent, and its pretty easy.

Prime black
Mechrite red
drybrush blood red
heavy wash of baal red
hawk turqouise drybrush on the edges of carapace

Personally, I like the brighter red and find it a good contrast to the black carapace. I'll try to get some decent pics today and attempt to post them. Oh, as for the sacs that attach to the guns, Scorpion Green + Thraka wash, then turqoise for the tubes. I think I'm going to paint the actual guns Deneb and then do a devlan wash over the foundation.

That sounds awesome! Let me know when you post up the pictures. I would love to see your models.

Hey, finally got around to taking some pics of my behemoth nids, but the only ones I have remotely done are my Tyrant and Carnifex (old one eye stand-in):

Let me know what you think. They look way better IRL, my flash makes pictures look like crap

It looks good! Only thing I'd tell you is to maybe put some detail into those openings the Carnifex has on its back. Other than that the color scheme seems to work pretty well!

I am, I've just been too ADD to concentrate on a single part of my army at one time lol. They actually got to play their first game tonight, and one-eye demolished everything he came into contact with. I played against another nid player tonight, and this is how he did:
Turn 2: charged 7 gargoyles, killed them all
Turn 3: charged 6 genestealers, killed them all
Turn 4: charged a tyrant and a guard, killed them both.

He didn't take a single wound up until the tyrant, and then was killed the next turn by a mawloc. I seriously think I'm going to continue to field him, if he consistently does this well. He may have an initiative of one, but he's difficult to wound, and the combination of crushing claws, scything talons, his berserk rule, and strength 10 will wreck anything
