Ok I got into a fight over this, if you take Samuel making attack bikes troop, they can take and hold objs...but the land speeder in the bike squad can also hold objs because its bought in a troop choice at that point, or is this wrong?

Being that it has an armor value, I have always been under the impression it cannot function as troops, even though it is attached to a troops unit.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

This. Just like Rhinos, Razorbacks, Chimeras and other dedicated transports for Troop choices.

Page 90 of the rulebook.
Note that until a month or two ago, Dark Angels Ravenwing Landspeeders taken in an army with Sammael were the only exception in the game. This is because the DA codex explicitly stated that they were scoring units.
GW just recently errata'd the text. So if you're playing against a DA player who thinks his LS is still scoring, you should point him here:
