It looks like it's better these days for banks to let people who default stay in their homes.

Not surprising, my brother had defaulted on his home a few years ago, his wife lost her job, and a whole gak storm later, they left the house. The Bank at the time, simply wouldnt work with them. Now though, the bank will contact them wanting to try and work things out, and the house still sits empty, nothing unchanged, the bank hasnt moved to do a thing in over 2 years. Same with the house next door to me, the guy just left it, and its been near 3 years, and IVe seen no sign of any bank doing anything about it

It is better to garner better public relations and not have your boarded up foreclosed homes squatted in that be the Grinch who Scrooged everyone out of their homes....with a baseball bat.

This seems relevant.
I would like to avoid paying my mortgage for 5 years. I'd also like to move into a million-dollar house.

I can't stand how the media treats people like this. It keeps refering to the house as "their" house. Yet, they didn't pay for it at all.
They borrowed the money for the down payment, and haven't paid either loan off. That's not "their" house, and never has been. It's been the bank's house from day 1.
