Not entirely sure that I can ask these questions here, not sure if they are too specific.
I had my first game against my mate's orks, and he had left his codex at home (bear with me here). While we were playing he asked me to bring up the faq and I noticed some things seemed odd. He called a waagh and rolled a one on his run roll, and then in the faq it says;
Q. Are saves allowed against wounds caused by
rolling a ‘1’ for the ‘Waaagh!’ fleet roll? Or by a
Bosspole’s re-roll?
A. Armour and invulnerable saves are allowed.
These are just the same as wounds suffered in
close combat from a normal weapon (actually, a
big green fist…).
But he didn't remove anyone or suffer any wounds? He hit a unit of 5 vets, so they would have been mulched regardless, but I still wanted to know...a few casualties could have changed how things went later on in the game, maybe even stopped us tying.
Also, he said that the KFF gave a coversave to the whole unit even if only one dude was within 6", same with deffkoptas and only part of a vehicle (a looted wagon in this case) had to be within 6". I have no problem if this is it, I just wanted to know.
On a non-ork related note, Assaulting a unit which is half in, half out of cover. My vets were half in half out, and I didn't think he would have to roll difficult terrain, as the closest vet models were out of cover. We agreed to play it that way, but were unsure on the actual ruling, and were having too much fun playing to stop and check (it didn't seem to matter, they were 2 inches away prior to the assault, so odds on it would have happened anyway).
To summarize;
1. Waaagh! rules, did he play it right?
2. KFF rules, did he play it right?
3. Assaulting into a unit partially in terrain, did we play it right?
Thanks

1. According to the FAQ, he gets an armor save, so he should have been making them. Failing that, he would suffer wounds.
2. Not sure about that one.
3. It depends on how many guys you each had and the distance between the 2 units. If you are following the assault moves correctly, and even one of his models have to move through DT, then the unit has top roll for DT (and possibly come up short).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Regarding my question 3, there was an assault later in the game which we were even less sure about.
V are vets, B are boyz, T is the crashed aquila bit of terrain (which we played as just difficult terrain).
V
V V V V
------- T T T T T
--------- T T T T
------ T T T T T
B
B B B B B
B B B B
The orks assaulted straight forwards, but since we had already played it as 'closest dude' to see if we needed to difficult terrain test, we didn't test. He ended up 'wrapping' his orks around (his) left hand side of the terrain, so that they didn't end up moving over the terrain. Was that ok? I'm a but rusty after 2 months off, only had a game or 2 since I got back from holiday
Edit: And thanks for your help HJ

If you were 6" away from the front Boy, then No DT test would be required, as the Orks could move around it (back 2 rows would not be able to get into B2B so they just need to maintain coherency).
If you were 6" from the second row of Boyz, however, then they would have to take a DT test, and would be affected as such.

1. The unit just takes one wound.
2. Yup. Any part of the unit within 6" of the model with the field.
3. If any of the models in the assaulting unit will have to move through terrain to maximize contact/engage unengaged models, then the whole unit has to test, and could fail the assault.

Actually, I thought for the assaulting into cover, it worked out as:
1. Follow rules for assaulting. (i.e. closest 1st, then next moving into b2b if possible, otherwise into contact with friendly model in b2b, etc.).
2. If going through cover would allow you to get into b2b contact, this would force you to take a MTC roll.
3. If, none of your models actually go into cover, then they assault as normal.
This doesn't happn very often, but if you follow the rules of assaulting, you may very well be forced to move through cover. Since you often times do not find out until halfway through the assault, it may be best to roll a MTC roll before assaulting, just in case it becomes an issue.
