I saw the thread earlier where someone posted an airbrush he was thinking of purchasing and I've been thinking of the same. What kind of paint do they use? ( I know it sounds stupid) how do you clean them and can they be used indoors with little to no issues?

You can use pretty much whatever paint as long as it thins properly. Of course you can't use house hold paint, but if you stick to hobby paints, you should be okay. I've sprayed Tamiya, Testor, GW, Reaper, P3, and even Delta. As long as you take the proper steps to prep, you should be okay. For acrylic paints you can clean with windex. For oil based, use lacquer thinner as they leave less residue behind than mineral spirits/paint thinner. Acetone works fine too as a cleaner. I'd recommend odorless mineral spirits if you are not well ventilated. Then spray some 90% rubbing alcohol through the gun after cleaning it for both acrylic cleaning and oil based. FWIW, I would stick to only watered or oil based for the airbrush. Buy two if you must use both. You have to perfectly clean it between the two, which is harder than you would think.

Another trick is to thin with rubbing alcohol for water based, 70% is probably best. If you get orange peel then cut down on the alcohol.

Yes they can be used indoors.

I personally use an Iwata Double action brush, with a Iwata ninja jet compressor.

I use it inside all the time with a box I've set up next to my painting station. I've used GW and P3 paints, thinned quite a bit though, even though they have heavy/large pigmentation.

I personally prefer Vallejo Model Air, it's meant to be used in an airbrush. It's affordable, and can last a long time.

Cleaning an airbrush is fairly easy, long as you use the proper cleaner (I like Medea's cleaner, and it's also odorless, great for indoor use), and just take your time and not rush. Needles can be costly if you're careless with the gun when it comes to cleaning.

Just to clarify:

Single action: you push the trigger and air and paint flow simultaneously. Great for base coating, if you're just looking to save some time.

Dual action: you'll pull the trigger back to begin airflow, then pressing the trigger down while doing so to being the paint to flow. Much more control overall, not to mention use of feathering/fade away, etc.

This is the one that was posted earlier and I like the idea of it. How hard are they to keep clean? Once I put the money into it what else am I going to have to buy and is it just cleaning it and upkeep? Do I need to order more paint or can I just use the GW pots I have? (Just to clarify ><

This is the other one I found. If you guys have any that you know of that are a decent price (I'm just starting out and don't wanna blow a ton of money right out of the gate) then let me know! Thanks
