I would find a way to stuff a 7th Drop Pod in there. So you can drop 4 on the first turn, instead of 3.

As well, I'd drop the Combi-Flamers. Waste of points, imo. that'd give you the 40pts back for the 7th pod, at least...

Edit: woops, nevermind, you are 10pts over. if you are going to a Tournament, you really need to be equal to or lower than the points value, or you may get docked tournament points.

Drop the Combi Flamers and a powerfist. And get the Drop pod.

Ok what about this then

HQ-
Vulkan

Troops
4x 10-man Tac w/ melta and multi-melta in drop pod 210 each

Elites
2x ironclad-dreads in pod 170 pts each
1x dread in pod 140 pts

I would say take normal dreads over ironclads as their biggest benefit, av13, is largely negated at the close ranges you'll be operating in. Plus ironclads aren't that great on the drop due to the short melta range. If you scatter odds are you can't still wreck a tank.

I would then drop one tactical and buy MMHF speeders for the rest of your points. They're probably the easiest way for you to get more firepower. If you can fit 2x3 of them, maybe look at getting a librarian next.

Another option would be sternguard as they're a bit more firepower for their points than normal tacs. If you really want that many marines.

Edit, just saw the new list, sec.

wait, that's not the OP. Yeah, I'd drop down to normal dreads, take the MM, and make sure you stay under the points cap, not above. It's frowned upon to be over the limit.

Just a thought but don't you want to have a 9 guys unit to fit vulkan in it ?

Or will he walk his way to the rest of the army?

Having a nine guy unit won't allow me then to have the special weapons on the tac marines.

Unfotunately I don't own land speeders so let me make the stenguard version. hmm.

Space Marines can take up to 12 models in a drop pod, so no he won't be foot-slogging. I'd probably want to look into taking combi-weapons on your sgts, even twin-linked its annoying when melta-guns miss/fail to kill they're target. Maybe drop the 4th tactical squad for a sternguard squad (load up on heavy-flamers/combi-meltas for some extra killing power), also I assume the dreads have heavy flamers right?

Armies: Crimson Fists, Orks, Eldar

the list won't allow unless i go over and try to work around trying to have 7 pods. sadly i'm woking around models i own which is 40 marines, vulkan,7 pods, three dreads a land raider, and 10 termies.

this is the list i thought of because i noticed cc might be an issue.

hq
vulkan 190
spacemarine captain 100 pts
command squad (4 vets 1 apoc ) in pod 150 pts

troops
3x 10-man tac w/ melta, mm, pod 210 pts each.

3x dreadnouhts in pod 140pts each

Now remember, 2 out of 3 standard missions have objectives. Kitting a squad out with weapons that have max 24" range, is kind of shooting yourself in the foot if an objective is far out of the way of the rest of his army.

I would suggest a ML in place of a MM on 1 squad, that way, should they need to land miles away, they have the ability to stay in the fight.

Locator Beacons might be a good idea on your alpha strike pods, that way, you can land near them in successor turns

I think 3 Ironclad Dreadnought is very very scary. I always pay for the 2x hunter killer missles for each Ironclad Dreadnought, not only are they a nice modeling piece, it makes sure whatever you are trying to kill is going to be D E A D.

I'd honestly see about getting the missile launchers in the drop pods, with this many pods you'll be surprised how effective they can be. Fire AFTER your squad has, in case it comes back and kills one of your guys, but 6-7 templates can ruin people's day, and actually force them to consider shooting the pods.

P.s. I mean the deathwind launchers, not a missile launcher marine.

If you land the pods AROUND your enemy 3 big blast Str 5 template can be VERY VERY effective.

i like the idea of the deathwing launchers and ironclads together whe i come to think of it, my problem is though i would probably need to copletely redo the list and i have a feeling the troop choice section might end up lacking. unless i run pedro kantor and a master of the forge

To be fair 40 tacticals at 1500 is a lot anyway...

You could always lower the size, sadly lose the heavy weapon (but thus the need for vulkan) and grab some sternguard with combi-meltas or something...

I only suggest it since i played a nid army with loads of spores with those cluster spines, and you'd be honestly surprised how nasty loads of templates per turn is.

problem is there for tacticals to take a drop pod, they required minium 10, what i could try is maybe master of th forge and pedro so i can take three sternguards and three dreads, and a tactical at ten men for my 7th pod then run a scout squad with the master with beam??

Space Marines can take up to 12 models in a drop pod, so no he won't be foot-slogging.

To expand on this, Vanilla Codex Marine Drop Pods can handle a squad size for 12, while Space Wolves can only handle 10. It's dependent upon the codex you're using, they're not all the same.

Take care when facing Grey Knights, they can force your drop pods to mishap quite easily using their psychic power Warp Quake from GKSS & GK Interceptor Squads.

At 1500, Master of the Forge + Sternguard list will be rather costly. You will miss out on long range weapons.

well range shouldn't be an issue as dreads can work from midfield and close up along with sternguard (would give them all combi-meltas) this what i got so far, but it nees trimming :/

hq
pedro- 175
master of forge w/beam - 120

troops
5 man scouts w/ cloaks 90 pts
10 man tac w/ melta and mm in deathwing launcher pod 230

Hmm, in that case, how about we go back to the most sure-fire way to a Drop Pod list: 1x Drop Pod.

Pedro
Librarian - Machine Curse - Null Zone

Ironclad Dreadnought - Seismic Hammer - Drop Pod - 2x HK missles
Sternguard - 3x combi-melta - Razorback LasPlas

5x Tactical Squad - Combi-melta - Razorback LasPlas
5x Tactical Squad - Razorback TLLC
4x Scout - combi-melta - melta bombs

Land Speeder Storm - MM
Land Speeder - HB - Typhoon

Pred - Auto/Las
Vindicator

Just don't drop too far away. Make sure to go for big target with that Drop Pod while Pedro swoop in with Sternguard. Tactical squad rides with librarian to kill off other vehicles. Alpha-striking those scouts with LSS will take out another vehicle (and might even tarpit the people inside). As long as everyone is within 12" from Pedro, your strike force should be solid.

@zephel Here is an idea you could probably run with the models you have.

HQ - Vulkan

Heavy - Devastator Sqd x 5
-4 x ML
-Drop Pod with locator beacon

Elite - Dreadnought with Multi-melta and Storm Bolter
-Drop Pod

- Dreadnought with Multi-melta and Storm Bolter
-Drop Pod

- Dreadnought with Multi-melta and Sorm Bolter
-Drop Pod

Troops - Tactical Sqd x 10
-Sgt with Combi-melta and Power Fist
-Meltagun
-Multi-melta
-Drop Pod

- Tactical Sqd x 10
-Sgt with Combi-plasma
-Plasmagun
-Multi-melta
-Drop Pod

- Tactical Sqd x 10
-Sgt with Combi-plasma
-Plasmagun
-Multi-melta
-Drop pod

The devs have an empty pod that comes in turn one and allows your troops to land by it later, maybe grabbing an objective. (or giving you a cover save on your Dreads)

The plasma sqds can be combat sqd'd if you are playing objectives, leaving the MM by the drop pod should give them decent range on armour.

The only advice I would offer is this: If you want to play a Vulkan list buy 3/4 attack bikes. Having those things TL'd is just mean!!!

Have fun at the tourney.

Sucess isn't permanent, and failure isn't fatal. Da Coach
