Me(playing IG) has challenged my BA friend to a fight. I've yet to lose against him, so my ego need a whack. I gave him my army list so he can tailor to it, but we're playing a regular fight with randomizing type, scenario and so forth. i know he is fond of furiosos, and the classic jump-inf with priest-cheese (yeah, hate them with a passion) He has been known to bring some preds and landraiders aswell, so gotta be prepared for everything.
here is my 1750 IG list that i hope will be allround enough. The list is more anti-vehicle than anti-inf, but meltas and lascanons work wonders vs spacemarines anyways. And with the silly psycic fear inf off the table crazyness i've gotta stay mechanized. Any thoughts on this list?
HQ - Company Comand Squad with an Officer of the fleet (he is fond of reserves)
Troop1 Infantery Platoon
-Platoon Command Sqaud, 4 flamers in a chimera with heavy Flamer and Multielaser (just to roam around and be anoying)
-2 squads (may embark in Vendettas depending on scenario)
- 1Heavy Weapon team with Missile launchers
Troop 2 Veteran Squad with 3 meltas in a chimera with heavy flamer and multielaser (my allround squads)
Troop 3 Veteran Squad with 3 meltas in a chimera with heavy flamer and multielaser
Fast 1 Vendetta (just gotta love these)
Fast 2 Vendetta
Fast 3 Bane Wolf (in case he masses inf)
Elite 1 Stoormtroopers with 2 melta (will prolly deepstrike)
Elite 2 Strormtroopers with 2 melta
Elite 3 Marbo (neat for giving pie to any Devastators in the back)
Heavy 1 Manticore (He hates this thing so will need some protection)
Heavy 2 Leman Russ Executioner
Heavy 3 Hydra (good for stopping any flyers roaming around + cheep)
1750

Decided to bump this, as it's me he's supposed to fight. We have quite a few matches versus eachother, and as stated, I have yet to beat him. I have had a alot of tied matches and one debatable victory in an awfully balanced "Ambush" scenario(so I prefer not to count that one).
So, in the name of cockiness, he gave me his all-comers list and told me to "counter this".
I know alot of you probably have other IG friends that you can beat on a regular basis, but Sqroot ain't no tactical fool, so it's hard to get a consistent strategy that works against him.
In a pure stats-battle, I can easily beat him on paper, but as most of you know, 40K ain't the best balanced game and dice are a dangerous tool to trust.
So, are any of you able to give me some tactics that will work on a regular basis against this list?
If I go full DoA/reserve list to avoid a round or 2 of getting shot at, it depends alot on who starts. If he wins the roll off, he tells me to go first and the reserves his entire list aswell. I can then drop/deploy defensively, but he will most likely get to shoot me first anyway. This will ofc benefit me more if he has to start.
I've toyed with a long range shooty list, but all he's got is cheaper than mine anyway, so I have to have lucky(loaded...*cough*) dice to win regularly.
Any pointers/tips will be greatly appreciated.

My 2 cents, I've tried the full DOA/Reserve tactic before. The main drawback is that you risk everything showing up piece meal.
Only one thing may show up on a given turn and get destroyed, then when the last turn comes, you only have a handful of units where he will probably have a good chunk of his army.
If you go HEAVY reserve, have some things deployed like Tac marines or predators to whittle down some stuff before your guys arrive, so at least if they do arrive one at a time, you have some other units for support.
I don't have much experience with Blood Angels. I have ~1200pts worth and have only played with them a handful of times, I insisted on using a full reserve list, and it just never worked out the way I wanted it to. Things show up one at a time, get destroyed, and so on until the last turn when I have like a Predator left.

Agree about reserves, it's risky but if it works, it works well!
Imp Mech lists can be tricky, especially with an experienced player.
Personally i'd focus on one section at a time. You don't get a lot for your pts with BAs so spreading your force will not help. If you want to start on the board then start everything on the board. However, my personal preferred tactic is to hold everything in reserve and rely on them turning up.
Take Dante in a squad with infernus pistol. I usually take sanguine guard so they count as troops. He doesnt scatter so you'll be able to plonk in almost anywhere, right behind your enemies favourite tank! He also ruins an enemy IC stat line. Plus he'll allow you to re-roll reserve rolls for any jump packers you take!
I'd also bring at least 2 other 5+ (pts depending) man Assault squads with infernus' + p/fists.
Poss a LR with TH/ SS termies in so even if he squats your LR, the 3+ SS save will soak up the melta/lascannon hits.
Your main focus is the tanks, don't be worried about the infantry . . . yet! (wait till all the tanks are in bits )
He's got lots of anti armour, so take lots of Infantry. Jump packs will give you better manuvability. Infernus pistols and power fists should be your main load outs.
I know its going to be expensive and lots (and lots) of peeps will laugh at how many men you've got on the board but it's a real "do or die" tactic which suits BAs to the ground. Plus it's ruddy good fun even if you do get mullered!

Yeah, I will focus fire the tanks down, cause his infantry rarely scare me, unless it's power weapon blob or Straken.
But I'm not sure why you recommend Infernus pistols on regular Assault marines, as the meltaguns are cheaper and have longer range. I do get more CC attacks out of the same guy with a pistol, but I guess I prefer more reliable AT range.
And a Terminator squad in a LR would probably be present if I made my own tournament list, but if the LR blows up, he can easily outrun my termies, negating the hammers on tanks. Seeing as he actually is challenging me to tailor my list towards his, I don't need such a badass CC powerhouse. Jump packs and meltas would give me a greater AT threat range and they will make the same mess of regular guards in CC. Plus if it's a objective game, he's not gonna focus fire my termies until my scoring units are gone or hiding, thus rending the ability to soak up heavy guns useless.
Thanks for the inputs so far, allways nice to see how other BA players deal with things =)

Excellent point about the Infernus pistol vs meltagun in std Assault squads. I have yet to revise my Assault squads since the new book so they're actually still carrying plasma pistols (and blowing themselves up regularly ), when I finally get round to it i'll prob do meltaguns on the marines and infernus on the sgt!
Another good point about out running the termies but I suppose its how close quarters the game is. On a 4x4 i'm sure you could box him in a bit and even if he does run he'll then miss out on shooting just to get his tanks out the way!
I usually play DC marines with jump packs but they're more anti infantry I find. My mate who is an Imp player is slowly but surely getting more tanks on the table so I will be very interested in how your game goes!
Good Luck guys! (Come on Blood Angels! )

Just thought I'd post a small update on how it went, seeing as atleast one of you wanted to know =)
I went with a semi-DoA list, infantry only, as any tank I planned to bring could be too easily taken out, forcing him to use his anti-tank weaponry on infantry.
2 scout squads with beacons for DoA bullseyes and possibly first turn assault. 2 devastator squads for long range shooting,
a Furioso with Fists in a pod, a librarian with JP as HQ, 3 priests and the rest 3 squads of assault marines with meltas.
We had 2 objectives and I pretty much left him with a couple of heavy weapon guys and a broken artillery tank, a Basilisk I think. And yes, he changed the list just a bit.
I seized both objectives and won, deservedly so I'd say. But not without casualties of course, I was left with the librarian, 5-6 marines scattered over various units, a priest, one devastator, 2 scouts and a weaponless droppod.
All in all, a fun game =)

Sounds like it was incredibly close. Your marines were left with nearly nothing. Congratulations on your victory

I wouldn't be too reserve heavy since he has an OOTF. Those are worth their weight in gold. I played a game the other day where I was IG with an OOTF, and my opponent didn't get her reserves until turn 4. Without the OOTF, she would've rolled enough to get both of her reserved items on the board in turn two, as well as turn three.
