Adler Hobbies to run Tabletop Terrain Contest

MHWA is excited to share that Gordon of Adler Hobbies http://www.adlerhobby.com/ has announced that he will be running a Tabletop Terrain contest at Huzzah! 2012. This is a fun way to promote and reward game masters who put so much time and energy, and money, into their tabletops! Here is a note from Gordon...

"Players are invited to provide gaming tables & single terrain pieces for the competition & judging. The present gaming umpire is a firm believer in good-looking tables with high quality terrain that cover a range of battlefield situations and historical re-enactments both real and make believe.

Each player should inform the Adler staff when he or she enrolls in the contest whether they are able to provide a complete table of attractive and coherently themed terrain (including an appropriately shaded base-cloth) or just a single piece of terrain.

The emphasis here is on "attractive terrain", folks, so no scouring pads for hedges, moldy moss/sponge for forests, or flowery mantle-piece houses! The terrain should look as good as the armies that are playing on it. Players should also write up an index card or single sheet of paper with details of what that terrain piece or table is about, and what "theme" it represents (i.e., Russian steppe, ruined city, Italian mainland, Normandy, Tunisia, Ancients modern, etc.), and any significant terrain features they would wish to include (i.e., large church, ruined buildings, empty desert, river with bridges, wooded hills, etc.)."

Judging will be on five key points and by popular vote

1 - Cloth mat with basic scenery
2 - Nice mat or other base with nice scenery and basic painting
3 - Textured gaming surface attention to small details and nice uniformly done scenery and/or buildings
4 - Well painted scenery and basing added details and accurate colors, great visual theme.
5 - Strong Visual theme, attention to a lot of detail, and very nicely painted scenery, a masterpiece
